Just thought what could cause my download speed to become so slow. I did a port reset today and getting a lovely 50kb/s download speed on the 2mb line (and no, there's nothing else running in the background nor is it the router as I've tested it with another router aswell).

A very helpfull Telkom tech (*cough *cough - NOT!) Said that eventho my router is syncing on 2048 it is not to say that I'll get +\- 200kb/sec as Telkom's 2mb line is "up-to-2mb" and not garuanteed!! WTF! I got better speeds on the 1mb line before they did all the upgrades. And the more I tell this id10t that I had a better download speed on the old 1mb line the more he reckons there's nothing wrong.

What I also find very weird aswell is that the upload speed is 507kbps? Should'nt this be 512?

Any ideas?

Maybe all the 1Mbps to 2Mbps upgrades on your exchange is causing congestion?
i.e. Contention ratio just shot up.
I wonder if Telkom have enough capacity running to the exchanges for these upgrades to make sense?

Yea my latency is now terrible to local game servers. On MWeb and WebAfrica. Thanks Telkom

Same here, cannot play games anymore, my ping is now anywhere from 400ms - 1400ms, should have known not to get excited for these upgrades. They havn't even done the 384 yet and it's this bad.

507 kps means your on a new adsl 2 dslam, that supports up to 10mbs , if your backbone of the dslam has been upgraded.

Arg... this is bad news. I should check if my line has been upgraded yet. If it's only going to degrade my line then I DON'T want it!

I had to downgrade back to 1mps in order to get a usable upload speed...
