5102G ROuter Firmware

Hi People i tried to upgrade my firmware today with billion's Firmware on their site for the 5102G router i cannot reset or make any changes on my router, and i can still logon on 10.0.0.2, i cannot change my current settings.

Hope someone replies soon

Do a factory reset, i.e. hold the reset button at the back of the unit.
Once done you will be able to configure it again because the only screen you are getting is device info atm....??

If you use Firefox you also have to allow scripts for the router or you can not save the new settings.

WARNING on this router.

I think I should warn users of this modem with the Telkomsa firmware that by default it appears to be accessible from the net. The settings under access management - ACL allow anyone to access the modem interface from the net. How they allowed this as their default I do not know. A simple brute force on the PW and any script kiddie out there can be in your network. What's worse is that I've been trying to turn this setting off to restrict access from LAN only but it does not seem possible wihout breaking the connection. On top of this the port forwarding does not seem to function at all. I'm going to try the Billion firmware and hopefully they have the common sense to disable net access by default.

EDIT: Yeah I'm a nub, forgot I'm on a network without a proxy... :o

Liar liar pants on fire....!!!!!!

Could you provide a little more detail for me please? Entering an external ip gives me a modem interface logon?

OOups... I stand corrected. Running from proxy confirms HuH's statement, Interface is only accessible from LAN.

HuH, perhaps you could provide your expertise on how to port forward this thing? I have setup the virtual server settings for ssh but port remains closed. Any ideas?

EDIT: Still no progress on Port forwarding. I have tried latest firware from Billion and Telkomsa multiple times. WIFI does not seem to work on WPA but is ok on WEP. The latest firware has corrected some issues with stability and reconnections. It was taking a long time to reconnect prior to firmware updates.

I'd really like to know if anyone has successfully managed to port forward this router?...

EDIT:
ARRRGHHHHH!!! I scream a long long long time! 2 weeks I've spent trying to open non default ports with this modem.

Where I come from, Australia, a 'shaped adsl account' is an account that when it has gone over it's quota of Gigabytes is restricted to a 64kB/s speed limit down from whatever it's adsl speed is.
Apparently over here a 'shaped adsl account' is an account that only has basic port 21-23 + 80 + 110 + 443 +1503 + 1720 access! No one told me this and to me it's such a ridiculous idea I never even considered it. Once again ARRRGHHHHH!!!
This is just so out of my experience. I have never heard of such a thing. I know of ISP's blocking port 25 and a few other ports for security reasons but an actual account that only has half a dozen accessible ports? WTF!!!? So I must apologize to billion and the 5102 modem as it appears it works fine. It's the stupid bloody ISP and their stupid bloody account setup that's been causing all my grief. Honestly, I feel like exploding!
On the plus side I suppose I've learnt an awful lot about ssh and modem/adsl configurations as I've reset everything half a dozen times... sheesh.

for those who see this thread and keep upgrading firmware and get agro cuz their ddns is pointing to their router and have no idea why etc etc...

try accessing your site through a web proxy [http://www.qqwebproxy.com/proxy.asp] or through another pc that doesnt use your router to connect to the internet.

upgrading the firmware is fun - now i have a firewall - woopie twang!
just remember to reset your router after the upgrade.

i'm a noobie to these routers - i'm only know k56 modems..lol
but having spent the last 3 hours fiddling with settings, firmware and telnet, i know a little more than i used to know..lol

My 5102G used to FREEK when I plugged my SMC EZ Switch 10/100 into it, ever since I upgraded to Billion Firmware its been perfect.

FYI, ANYTHING you buy from Telkom is broken, even before you open the box.

I upgraded to SP3 to find that my laptop now does not connect with my adsl "telkom" router, but my generic at home still connects seamlessly, what do I do - is there a downside to just removing SP3 ?
