5G tech: 1Gbps and beyond

What utter drivel - we haven't even reach 4G yet, LTE (Long Term Evolution) is the steps that we're taking towards 4G and how does Samsung define the 5th gen? 5th Gen of what?

Agreed, there are no standards for 5G, so how can you claim it already?
Plus using 64 antenna array - So it's simply a larger MIMO array, which is an LTE standard.

From the previous article:

The South Korean giant said the test had witnessed data transmission of more than one gigabyte per second over a distance of two kilometres.

Now, can we get some clarity if this was actually gigabyte or gigabit? This latest article isn't all that clear.

Secondly, if we are talking gigabyte... Let's look at the maths quickly...

Currently lets assume 5 million total cell subscribers in the country, then, lets assume that cellphone penetration doubles in the next 7 years (totally possible) and lets assume that 1% of those get to use 5G in 2020... that brings it down to 100k users, now, lets oversubscribe this by 200:1 bringing it down to 500 x (1 x 8) = 4 terabit/second = more capacity than the entire SEACOM cable system, and more than 3 times the combined aggregated speed of every interface on the TENET network at the time I left TENET.

Basically, to roll this, you'd need multiple 100gig links to each tower to make it perform at anywhere close to this...

Lol, real nice in theory... but in practical reality? We're a long long long way from this. Might be possible by 2020 though, but considering just how long its taken the industry to move from 10gig to 100gig even in SP backbones? Not convinced...

It's a definition, not a succession.
