6 day old Corsair TX850 explodes!!!! WTF??!!!

So last week Tuesday I took delivery of and installed a TX850 Corsair PSU. Monday morning I switch on my pc, it starts booting but 2 seconds later I hear a loud bang and the ensuing sad, burnt electronic smell emanating from the back of my CM690 chassis and the pc has switched off.

Cut long story short my PSU has exploded!!!

I returned it soon afterwards to Rebeltech in Craigavon and am now awaiting feedback.

My rig consists of a i5-750 cpu, Asus P55 mobo with 3 drives, one of which is a ssd, dvd-rom, 3 monitor setup connected to a HD6870 Sapphire GPU. I been running a Hunt-Key 650W for the last 2 years without any issues but decided an upgrade was in order and thus went for the premium branded Corsair TX850. To say I'm disappointed is an under statement.

Any one have any idea what may have caused this?

Also I haven't used my pc since, is there likely to be any damage to any other components? Or is it impossible to tell until I'm booting up again with a new PSU?
 
Bought 2 x Corsair 4GB DDR3-1333 last week at different times, both faulty.

Bought a Corsair 4x4GB DDR3-1600 Vengeance kit three weeks ago, one faulty.

Moved to Kingston.

To add, about a year ago, my own Corsair Obsidian 650D chassis and Corsair AX750 PSU were faulty on arrival.

Used to recommend the brand to everyone... :(
 
Things go wrong hey, none of my corsair stuff has any issues, two psu's running good, memory is awesome.

RMA and hope your stuff isn't damaged.

Get a R150.00 power supply from the flea market, it wont explode I promise, but depending on what failed exactly you will have to boot to know for sure. Sounds like a capacitor popped?

I hear you, but it's just happening too often (as far as RAM goes, of which there are times I can't remember and haven't accounted for in my OP).

Far different than things like HDDs. :p

Just returned it and told him to sort it out. No paperwork and nothing as official as a RMA. It's already a bloody inconvenience without the paperwork!!!

Ja, I went for Corsair based on its sound reputation. I been hearing for years how crappy HuntKey is, ironic....

No but who cares, are you sure it's the HD6870's that caused the failure? Hell you must be clever. Did the OP make a wattage calculation error by any chance, what is you exspert view?
