600 cops deployed as security

The ANC wanted 100 000 supporters at the stadium. With the top two tiers closed it looks like about 25 000 are in the stadium right now. They have big TV screens up on the adjoining fields but there's nobody there.

^ scores????

Maybe 40 or 50 that I could see. And some were passed out - drunk.

Well that's two score or two score and ten so they are, technically, correct. I get the feeling this weekend isn't going to go exactly the way the ANC envisioned. The disconnect is apparent...

Voters not worried about Nkandla, says Cyril

Port Elizabeth – The people of the Eastern Cape are concerned about issues that impact on their lives, such as service delivery and jobs, not the uproar over Nkandla, Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa said on Friday.

He said they were concerned about these issues – not about the recent Constitutional Court ruling against President Jacob Zuma for contravening the Constitution regarding the public protector’s order that he pay back some of the taxpayers’ money spent on non-security upgrades to his private homestead at Nkandla in rural KwaZulu-Natal.

Crowd is getting restless.

It is HOT here today and the people are cooking in that stadium.

Proceedings are already two hours behind schedule.

Jeremy Maggs says the free water is already warm :p

Well it is an ANC event so it comes with ANC organisational skills...

SASSA trucks being loaded with free blankets (paid for by the fiscus, therefore with our tax) to be handed out at the ANC Manifestó Launch in Port Elizabeth.
Sauce?

Viva ANC...viva...

Are there any cops out in the rest of PE? I didn't see one single one on the roads from Thembani Road all the way to Raleigh Street...

So the ANC is going to block municipal officials from getting tenders, in a window dressing attempt of fighting corruption.
Yet no mention of other ANC heads of state and minister's from getting the same..... Yes, clearly those blankets are to pull the wool over the eyes of the supporters

Who needs food, jobs and schools. Blankets can feed and educate the world

I am surprised none of the opposition parties have gone to court to interdict government departments handing out stuff at ANC events.

Many empty seats at #ANCManifestoLaunch

Port Elizabeth – The blazing sun caused African National Congress supporters to shun sections of the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Saturday and these sections remained empty even as President Jacob Zuma delivered his speech after 1pm at the party’s August 3 local government elections manifesto launch.

“The people that have entered and have been recorded are more than 42 000. There are many people here. There are many buses that have arrived. Ten buses. Some taxis have gone to the townships to fetch more people who are coming to join us,” ANC national chairwoman Baleka Mbete said to loud cheers by the ANC faithful.

But numerous seats remained unoccupied as Zuma began his address. On Friday, ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe said the launch would be a “grand event” with the 46 000-seat stadium and overflow areas filled to the brim.

“Since the beginning of the week, supporters, members, and leaders of the ANC have been involved in an intensive mobilisation campaign, talking to our people and encouraging them to be part of the 100 000 people-strong contingent expected at the stadium on Saturday,” said Mantashe.

Zizi Kodwa didn't look great this morning, wore dark glasses and bought 2 red bulls, must have been one hell of a party last night.

"A vote for the ANC is a vote for the constitution of South Africa" - Jacob Zuma
