As the title says. What exactly does it invove? What do they check?
E.g. do they check cv joints, shocks, wheel alignment, balancing, etc, etc?

Depends who is doing it. Which 62 point check?

It's just a once-over with a big number attached in order to sound impressive. It's not necessarily a 62-point check; it could just as well be a 70-point check, or a 101-point check, depending on who's doing the checking.

Ask whoever it is for a copy of their check sheet.

a bunch of bs if you ask me :p

this^

its just a "check"

when i bought my golf from mastercars they did this check but after that i took it back for battery which had no battery water in it as well as a manifold leak ...they sorted it out but that check was suppose to have all that

hyundai did a 100 point check and still had a rather obvious issue with a car
bmw did their bumper to bumper check to transfer name on motor plan and missed a horrendous oil leak
AA did their technical inspection and missed buckled wheels and a damaged rack

so yeah imo all a bunch of bs

Are you really asking whether a second-hand car dealer can be trusted? Really!!??

Unfair and unjustified blanket statement. I won't argue that there's a whole helluva lot of shysters out there, but there are also those just trying to make an honest living.

I'm not sure if the question is directed at me. If it is, I'm taking my car for a major service (200 000km) and they say they do that "check".

fair enough, imo a vast majority of them would minimise their issues if they actually bothered looking at a trade in vehicle properly instead of just seeing the potential money in their bank account.

on both of my last trade ins the cars werent even started or bonnet popped etc

Car service city. They have been servicing my car for a long time and they are reasonably priced and I got good service before.

Ask them for a copy of the completed check sheet afterwards so you have some evidence if something goes pear-shaped later on. Make sure it's signed/stamped where necessary.

and yeah get the sheet stamped so 3 months down the line something breaks you can show them it wasnt checked up

Just checked this website.

/snip

Dude, what some random website says is really rather immaterial. It's not some global standard practice of "CHECK THESE 62 THINGS OR DIE!!111!11!". It depends, in your case, on what Car Service City decided should comprise their supposed 62-point check.

I pay average of R1.4k for a major service. I pay more for extra work of course.
2005 Toyota RunX 1.8 RX

I have a feeling I might change both front and rear pads and/or disks.

Honest living?! HAHAHAHA....no. Nothing honest about lying to your customer to make the sale. Seen it time and time and time again. That 'honest living' statement even makes me feel uneasy. Its like a Fong Kong product that has 'quality' written on it. BULLCRAP!

People will often do very dishonest things to get commission, esp with those targets the sales guys have. Will make any 'honest' person into a 'shyster'.

That is all.
