62 point check. What does it entail?

Dude, what some random website says is really rather immaterial. It's not some global standard practice of "CHECK THESE 62 THINGS OR DIE!!111!11!". It depends, in your case, on what Car Service City decided should comprise their supposed 62-point check.
Oh. Ok. My impression was it was some standard practice, just like when you service your car you change oil, plugs, filters, and stuff.

Honest living?! HAHAHAHA....no. Nothing honest about lying to your customer to make the sale. Seen it time and time and time again. That 'honest living' statement even makes me feel uneasy. Its like a Fong Kong product that has 'quality' written on it. BULLCRAP!

People will often do very dishonest things to get commission, esp with those targets the sales guys have. Will make any 'honest' person into a 'shyster'.

That is all.

Yes numbnutz, you've had bad experiences. It does however not automatically follow that all 2nd-hand car dealers, and by extrapolation all people who sell 2nd-hand cars, provide bad service.

I've worked in dealerships with exemplary customer satisfaction rates. I've had positive experiences when buying cars; our last purchase was absolutely painless and at a very decent price.

I've also seen and dealt with people I'd sooner punch in the face than attempt to do business with. Does that now mean that all prospective customers are knobs?! Your thought-terminating cliché fails.

people are just knobs in general :p

I pay average of R1.4k for a major service. I pay more for extra work of course.
2005 Toyota RunX 1.8 RX

I have a feeling I might change both front and rear pads and/or disks.

ok thats not bad at all ....although not sure but i think on a runx parts are not expensive as well

My GF bought a ford Ikon from a Ford Dealer in DBN. They did the 101 point check and the mechanic signed. The next week I emailed them with some concerns that I had seen/heard on the car. Apparantly 4 of the 5 complaints were on the 101 check they do. The mechanic got a written warning and another mechanic worked on my car. He was awsome! He didn't even check my complaints fully, he just replaced stuff.

1 : Brake squeek with new break pads. (New discs and pads put on, didn't even test or check my claims)
2 : Water in sprayers not lasting. (Found crack in pipe leading to sprayer)
3 : Crack in back tail light. (Replaced)
4 : Interior door light not working. (Replaced)
5 : Car not starting on first turn. (New battery)

All done free of charge obviously. So it went from bad service to excellent and about 5k in labour and parts for free in a way.

say wat?

sho...name calling. You sir, need some prospective. This is the quality in car sales people (both used and new) I am referring to. I.E. condescending, patronising and down right disrespectful. I am just a person, just like you. Being on the payroll doesn't give you an unbiased, nor qualified opinion. Cliché? Maybe look up big words before using them.

Are these 'sweeping statement'? Yes. But where there is smoke, there is fire. Maybe you need to look past yourself, and try be a better person. Why do most of the folks in this post agree that the 62 point check is BS? Why is there such distrust?

Your defences are up, and that generally indicates a guilty conscience.

Good day, sir.

The word is perspective - not a good start. As for being "condescending, patronising and down right disrespectful"... a bit rich from the guy who dove straight in with denigrating an entire industry, and all involved therein...

Read my responses again - you'll note that I've given advice and opinions based on exactly the fact that one should be careful and thorough when dealing with workshops. Why is there such distrust? Because, a) it motivates care and diligence, and b) there are enough shady operations around to warrant being careful.

Your defences are up, and that generally indicates a guilty conscience.
My defences? Nah, but you do owe me a new irony meter.

Good day, sir.
And to you...
