Hi

I have a 6230i and the vodacom site says its a vodafone live phone. My phone doesnt have the vodafone live! logo on it...can someone please tel me if i can use voda live on it?

On the list of approved phones there is a non-Vlive as well as a Vlive version tested and approved, so you might have one of the non-VLive units.

It should work if you download the VLive settings, these you can get from the call desk. You might not have single-button access, but should still be able to access Vlive via the menus.

Another option would be to have the phone upgraded to the VLive software. Latest tested version is V3.4 but that's nearly a year old, so there might be newer firmware.

OK I phoned the call desk and asked for the VLive settings. The guy I spoke to (dunno if I should mention his name) asked which phone I have. I said 6230i. He said that my 6230i is already VLive enabled and I should be able to access it through the menu. But my phone doesn't have a VodafoneLive option in the menu I told him, so I asked for the VLive settings again and he told me VLive works with GPRS so if I have the GPRS settings on my phone (which I do) I should be able to access VLive. Now what?

vodacom3g are you talking about my firmware version 3.4? Because I currently have ver 3.3. Where can I get the v3.4 firmware that has the VLive software?
thanks again for your help

You should be able to go to any of the Vodacare shops to get the VLive 3.4 firmware

I'd suggest you do the upgrade as the phone will then present the correct ID to the VLive backend ensuring correct rendering of the content.

Do they charge for updating firmware? If so, how much?

When I did my 6680 upgrade they did not charge me, but first check.

When your phone connects to the network it identifies itself by an ID (called the UAProf). The backend systems then know they're dealing with a specific model and can format the graphics, etc. to fit correctly on that specific screen.

When we had both non-VLive and VLive 6680's, we ran into this problem in that the non-branded ones did not render correctly as they presented a different ID and the backend systems did not know what to do with it.

The symptom, in this case, was quite weird. You'd get a "Dropped out of 3G coverage' error which patently was way off the mark!

So, the moral of the story is to rather run pukka VLive software on a VLive-capable handset to get the correct experience.

Mine too, wasn't charged. I think it is when the phone is still within the warranty period that you get it for free.

They seem to want to have a reason why you want the upgrade. I told them my bluetooth crashed all the time.
