I'm capped, so yesterday, I setup my Nokia PC Suite on the PC and used the USB cable to connect the phone (Nokia 6300) to the PC.

Used Nokia PC Suite to connect to the internet, it connects at 460kbps but OMG... it was sooooooooooooooooo slow.

I tried to get onto my Gmail (on the PC in question) and it literally took 5 minutes to bring up the login page, let's not even talk about how long the Facebook page took to load.

Is this normal?
Am I missing something?

I'm on Vodacom btw...

It's the reported connection between the cable and your phone duder, not the connection to the internet ;) :D :p

I think the 460kbps is only the connection speed between the pc and the cellphone. The 6300 should connect at GPRS or even EDGE speeds. GPRS is very slow, but EDGE should be usable.

Okay, granted (I sorta gathered that) but what should the speed be?

I mean, it was soooooooooooooooooooo slow... I think 33.6k modem would've been faster.

LoL. Don't know. I know facebook isn't one of the fastest pages to load, but gmail's login page normally doesn't take that long...

I've got a 6230i, it supports Edge, but it's pathetically slow.

GPRS is theoretically slower than 56k dialup ;)

I remember using my 6230i to connect to the internet as well, it was fast enough, I mean, I could get onto Facebook and Gmail quickly... now I can't... what has changed?!? :)

I used my mom's 6300 on mtn and I was getting EDGE on that last weekend and that was fast. That was in Rustenburg.... Does it show the EDGE (E) connection on the phone when you are connected or GPRS (G) ?

tHING IS when i happen to connect my motorola to my pc I connect at 12mbps...Which isit in no way the real speed you are going get...You Nokia 6300 which has edge 236.8 kbps. As for Vodacom, you have to be using gprs (the 5min to load anything)..thus we look to edge for some what a upgrade of speed,Some top class phones do come with gprs/edge only but to Vodacom its outdated, besides Vodacom's edge coverage( topic closed)

As for me when ever i have to use my phone as a modem i use Virgin Mobile, 50c a mg,edge speeds, Most i ever got was 50kb,that maybe was when Cell C was happy of something:D Facebook, mxit pc etc etc work alright not slow not fast(3g)
