64k sim

I see that MTN has 64k sims in the prepaid sim packs. Can these be sim-swapped with a post-paid number? I have an older 32k sim which the phone sometimes fails to pick up, reseat and then it's fine.
Are there any other advantages to a 64k sim?

I've got a 128k Virgin Mobile sim, can't see any advantages over the 32k sims other than it being four times the size in capacity.
 
Can anyone explain to me why sim cards have such a tiny capacity? We have 8GB Micro SD cards which are half the size of a sim card yet hold an exponentially higher amount of data.

Because a sim card is a smart card and not a memory card. Its like saying how can my hard drive store more than my CD Rom even though my hard drive is smaller ;)

They could easily put more memory in a sim but at a cost - why would anyone need 8GB storage in a sim card? for contacts?

That bit is obvious but why is a 64k/128k sim better than a 32k?

Why 3G initially came out, every shop wanted to sell a 64k sim because then the 3G will only properly work, but I think I still got a 32k sim, and got no problems connecting to HSDPA...

This same topic was discussed here, but no concrete facts about whats the diffirence appart from size...

Paid R110 to port to MTN, and still received a 32k SIM.

Just can't win

That is an interesting Hard Drive you have there, smaller than a CD Rom you say?
I was obviously not implying that I want 8GB of storage on my Sim Card, but I want enough to store all my contacts. Something that (and here comes the point of my earlier comparison) should be relatively simple considering the advances in other data storage mediums such as Blu-Ray, HDDs and yes, memory cards which I referenced because of their size and not the technology with which they are built. Maybe the technology doesn't exist for large smart card storage capacities but one has to ask the question.

Yep, what kind of CD Rom do you have? Most CD Roms take a 5.25" Bay and a HDD takes a 2.5" less than half the size and thinner too.

Changing from a 32 to 64K/128K sims dont give the customer any other advantage other that higher storage so I would guess Mobile networks would be reluctant to spend more money on increasing sim storage for that reason, if it increased voice quality then maybe.

I dont understand why you would require more storage most phones have 16GB+ storage now days using cheaper SSD Storage.
 
I'm on 32k and having no problems. Can't see it makes any difference.
