We don't even have the 3.6Mbps one yet.
Let's not get too ambitious. The cell networks are struggling to provide even part of 3.6. One of these days, the ASA will put a stop to all mention of 3.6 if the speeds never attain this for the average user. With my 3G/HSDPA modem allows me to get a 3.6Mbps dowlink whether i use MTN or Vodacom.
My device is 3G/HSDPA upgreadable I'm hoping that our SA Networks are willing to bring 7.2Mbps to us users so that we can experience such speed .
Is it? What device is it?My 3G/HSDPA modem allows me to get up to 3.6Mbps downlink whether i use MTN or Vodacom.
My device is 7.2Mbps upgreadable

Vodacom says it's coming, but they currently only tout speeds "up to 1.8". The E272 does 7.2, so we are a wee bit behind aren't we.Which networks are mentioning 3.6Mbps in their advertising?
The Huawei E220 USB HSDPA modem is capable of 7.2Mbits/s downlink and 384kbits/s uplink, and yes I did mean the E220.
i am also using the e220, and on the rare occassion that i do get the blue light it flashes 3.2Mbits. i must actually do a speed test
I'll take a flyer = E272 .. from Vodacomfone?
No it's not.
And in case you wanna take another flyer, unlike the Huawei E272,the device i am using is not an HSUPA modem but a 3G/HSDPA modem that is upgreadable to HSUPA's speed of 7.2Mbps downlink.
Forget about what Huawei.com says, the E220 can be firmware upgraded to support a maximum HSDPA downlink speed of 7.2Mbits/s, however the E220 cannot be firmware upgraded to an HSUPA modem, the E220 is still an HSDPA modem.I object.
Check this out: http://www.huawei.com/mobileweb/en/products/view.do?id=282
The URL above contains Huawei E220 's specifications and it says somewhere :" HSDPA packet data service with a maximum transmission rate of 3.6Mbps ". It doesn't say that Huawei E220 is 7.2Mbps downlink capable or upgreadable.
3.6Mbits/s is simply the speed reported by Windoze, and not the speed you actually get when connected to Vodacom's or MTN's HSDPA networks - although Vodacom's entire HSDPA network was upgraded to 3.6Mbits/s HSDPA quite a few months back [July 2007 IIRC], both Vodacom and MTN are waiting for Telkodemonopolies to provide enough backhaul capacity to cope with the increased bandwidth demands of 3.6Mbits/s HSDPA.With my 3G/HSDPA modem I always get optimum speed of 3.6Mbps whether I use Vodacom or MTN.
Virgin Mobile uses CellC's network, and CellC only has GPRS & EDGE, CellC does not have an HS[D]PA network, which is why you're getting GPRS from CellC - although you should be able to get EDGE from some of CellC's base-stations - obviously not in your area though. When I use CellC or Virgin I am limited to GPRS.
