7.2mb Really?

Hi Ginggs, I used to travel the N1 quite a lot since I first got my drivers license in the 70's. AFAIK the 120 you refer to is a maximum allowable speed, but then again, I date from the pre-K53-era...

Are you telling me that the 120km/h is actually a theoretical limit defined in some protocol and that my actual speed is determined by the type of vehicle I'm driving and the traffic conditions?

The issue I had with the "7.2" was that it created perceptions. V3G tied in the hardware requirement with the product. You know for yourself driving in a Ferrari on the N1 from Bellville to Cape Town is not going to get you there any faster than the next guy in his clapped-out Beetle, unless you behave like a hooligan... In addition, the fact that my Landy's speedo indicates a maximum speed of 200km/h means that it shows a maximum speed of 200km/h and nothing else!

Compare Apples with Apples - Telkom 3G Sim in E272 - DL= 6.5 at anytime of the day, change back to Vodacom Sim - DL now back to 2.8. So it is not hardware as the same PC and Modem used.
Prognosis: Not enough "Backhaul links".
If you cannot comply to the promise and create perceptions DO NOT MAKE THE PROMISE IN THE FIRST PLACE.

being clever and all.

you do know that backhaul is provided my Telkom

and they are choking the competition to gain ground

Thus the reason for them holding back on delivering

transmission links.

That's your opinion and you have the right to an opinion, but I totally disagree with you.

To be fair, Vodacom never "promised" speeds of 7.2, but the perception was certainly created...

Just a quick Chip in as I also just finished reading the whole thread . I was certainly deceived by the 7.2 part . As the 1.8 and 3.6 always meant the max .speed achievable. hence the 7.2 made sense to assume along the same lines. My question is this . Why are we speaking about a Jannie all of a sudden . Ive always spoken to Vodacom3g . Is this the same guy ? And has he passed away or what ? It sure sounds like that from the last few post mentioning this "Jannie"

jannie van zyl was vodacom3g... he's now the iBurst CEO IIRC...

They are now doing it with the "up to 60 days" for the data bundle validity as well. A deceptive bunch they are indeed.
At least the "up to" is clearly stated, like banks do with "free credit for up to 55 days" on credit cards.

I also do know that VodaomData promised to take this up with the suits at VC, because it is ridiculous that it can't be 60 days - period.
