The US Government knew this was going to happen before it did.
I do not think that gets nearly enough attention.. ^_~ Worked out well for them, not so much for anyone else though
Do you think that the UK government knew the London bombing was going to happen before the time, or the Bali bombing, or the Madrid Train bombing,......?

Only the anti-West trolls here would believe such BS.

it is common knowledge they had all the info they needed to figure it out.. lol
So it was either their failure to act, or their intention not to act. Pick

It is unfortunate that they failed to act in time to stop the homicide attacks, but thank goodness they've learnt since then.

Three Islamic extremists are facing lengthy prison sentences after being found guilty of conspiring to kill hundreds of people in a terrorist bombing campaign.

Sick that you'd laugh at such dastardly homicide attacks.

You will need to clarify that. If you mean that they were warned about possible attacks involving hijacked aircraft, then yes there were warnings. It seems, however, that your are implying that they had knowledge of the specifics of the attacks and chose not to act. That would require extraordinary proof.

*sigh*

Yes mere talking always stops bullets.

If only we had him around today

I don't recall a single shot being fired on 911?

so wth are you talking about?

and Neville Chamberlain was a pu$$y.

All I was saying that there were other options to dealing with the terrorist mentality than blind violence. and I was not only talking about diplomatic solutions either.

As someone else said above, the US response in the "War on Terror" has done more to alienate the Muslim world than anything ever before.

They should have used a completely different tack.

What is the USA really really good at? Materialism... consumer culture... media... entertainment.

They should try replacing the suicide bomber mentality with a consumer mentality.

Beam free satellite into all the Muslim countries with free TVs and receivers.

MTV 24 hours a day... you will have a generation of materialistic consumer Muslim Teens within 5 years. They will have 100 reasons why they don't want to blow themselves up.

Right now they hate the US... give them a reason to hate Islam.

Ideological warfare.

I should be on the US Advisory committee.

Yes thats what Im implying, that is my THEORY. Their intelligence agencies are top notch. They were tailing these guys the moment they entered the country. Knew who they were and to what organisation they belonged. They were intercepting their communications. They were receiving threats. The agencies suggested action time and time again. No action was taken. AFAIK none of that is disputed. Maybe Im wrong. And then the government tried to stop, and also censored independant investigations etc.. How dodgy do things have to be, before its "probable"?

Frankie. We weren't talking about dead people.
We were talking about the US government.

Those attacks weren't a first strike by an unknown foe but the highlight of a series of attacks by a dedicated enemy. Al-Qaeda's war on the US began at the World Trade Center in 1993 with an attempt to blow up the Twin Towers with a truck bomb in the garage.

Thankfully there have been no successful attacks on U.S soil since then. Pity it has fallen so far back in memories of people who forget it seems that the U.S is in a war.

IMO,you are wrong -- every one of the 4155 and counting , dead in Iraq, is 4155 attacks on American soil, as their families are affected by their loss. :(

The truth of the matter though is that terrorism could never have hurt America as deeply as Bush's response has.

The loss of life due to terrorist attacks, while tragic, is relatively very small. America should not have given up so many personal liberties for the illusion of safety.

The Bush administration made a right mess of the whole affair.

The following article sums it well:
Facing a nuclear North Korea and an aggressive Russia, in debt to China, reviled in much of the world, and still fighting two wars half a world away from home, there's no way America is safer now than it was in March 2003 - when the US invaded Iraq.

Unless, that is, you accept September 11, 2001, as an example of keeping America safe.
