Complaint to 702:

I am tired of hear the headline “well known Afrikaans singer, Jurie Els”.......

Firstly he is not well know I had never heard of him before and secondly why the Afrikaans? You don’t say Zulu Politician Jacob Zuma or Jewish Business man Barry Tannenbaum do you?

So take it out of your report

Isn't "Afrikaans Music" a genre like Rock Music? So it's like saying "well know rock musician, Mick Jagger..." or something.

/facepalm

This is the weakest complaint I have ever seen :D

What's the fuss. You crying racism because they identify him by his genre of music?

Afrikaans is a genre. Kwaito is a genre. Latin is a genre. etc.

Just because you've never heard of him does not mean he's not well known.

Get over it.

Don't be pathetic. He sings in Afrikaans does he not?

702 is not racist.

I still don't think it implies the genre of music, and if it does to you its ambivilent to me

OFC it does :D

And if you are Afrikaans and brought up in an Afrikaans house and claim never to have heard of Jurie Els..... You are not Afrikaans :D

Epic fail! Its a genre. I call Portuguese music, Portuguese music. If I call it pop music or traditional music nobody will really know what i am talking about.

Kill 2 birds with 1 stone, eg: rather listen to radio sonder grense, that way you dont have to listen to 702's headlines, and you might hear more of JE on radio sonder grense

It's either ignorance, lack of info or plain stupidity.

Gets my nomination for dumbest post of the year. I know there some whiners on this forum, but this takes the cake.

Most Afrikaans dudes I know would be proud to be called Afrikaans. Has it now become a derogotory(i cant spell it) term ? WoW, South Africa sure has changed.

Actually, in the UK if you said X was a singer from Essex and if X was female, then everyone would assume you where insulting her, because everyone knows Essex girls are easy.

I would be insulted if I was associated with Afrikaans music, tbh. If you really want to hurt my feelings say something nasty like "zippy and Steve Hofmeyer are buddies" I would be very angry.
