Complaint to 702:
I am tired of hear the headline “well known Afrikaans singer, Jurie Els”.......
Firstly he is not well know I had never heard of him before and secondly why the Afrikaans? You don’t say Zulu Politician Jacob Zuma or Jewish Business man Barry Tannenbaum do you?
So take it out of your report
Most Afrikaans dudes I know would be proud to be called Afrikaans. Has it now become a derogotory.
Only when the words afrikaans and singer are used together. ( with apologies to those few afrikaans artists and groups who don't smile, wear silly hats, use soft focus and who include their surname on their cd covers.)
Because he sings in Afrikaans, duh! If they'd said Afrikaner singer then you may have a point.Complaint to 702:

I still don't think it implies the genre of music, and if it does to you its ambivilent to me

I think I have been vindicated by the fact that 702 have now stopped using the term “Afrikaans” in reference to Jurie Els. Firstly despite what you may think I did not object because I was Afrikaans speaking but because I thought that such terminology was not to be used in South Africa unless there was a particular reason to add further identification. In the case at hand there is no necessity to label the accused as Afrikaans. They have, in their omission, accepted the fact that they never intended it to be a genre of music, but rather a language issue.
Isn't "Afrikaans Music" a genre like Rock Music? So it's like saying "well know rock musician, Mick Jagger..." or something.
+1. Idiotic thread title.
