Hi guys. Please forgive the noobness of this thread. Been downloading some HD movies off of saix news server and trying to watch it on my 23" monitor. Unfortunately the quality in full screen mode is crap! Is this a hardware issue or the expected quality of the content?

1040?

How close are you watching them?

Check YouTube/Vimeo for a 720/1080p clip and see if the full screen quality is just as bad.

Yea... dont you mean 1080?

Hd video on my 24" is crystal clear.

i sit 1.5 metres from a 37" and 1080p does not look "cruddy" i think you have a problem :P

What graphics card are you using? Perhaps send me the link for the nzb i will download and check it for you but the 720 and 1080 movies i download are amazing.

What 23" do you have? How is your monitor connected? I know i have issues with my monitor when i had hdmi plugged in so i went back to dmi and everything is awesome.

The quality has nothing to do with the news server, but rather with the uploaded NZB content that you downloaded. On places like nzbmatrix you can read the comments, and there the other people usually give comments regarding the audio & visual quality.

So next time before you just download a 720p/1080p video, make sure that the quality is good! In general all the rips by MacGuffin are outstanding quality ;)

I have never downloaded a crap mkv though, i use nzbmatrix the most. I never even check the comments.

It has to be a codec issue, resolution problem or as fudzy says it is a cam.

My favourite HD rips are from ****SoNy (SH iTSoNy if it blocks the word). Always top quality.

generally any 720p/1080p you get will be good. newsservers i find are not prone to the misinformation you get with torrents.

not knowing what nzbs the op refers to, i am inclined to think setup issues. one being bad could be a news server issue. a consistent issue seems at odds with what other people, myself included, have experienced.

What media player are you using to watch them? I think there might be issues with VLC player/direct X/graphic settings/somewhere in the software side of things.
Usually HD content is MKV, so maybe try using http://shark007.net/ codecs and see if media player plays them better?

Yea i also find very few issues with nzb's, i never find a movie with a password. With torrents you expect that sort of thing.

I think the news okes make money from people so the quality is far better.

Download VLC player and load this codec pack http://www.cccp-project.net/

VLC already includes all the codecs that it can use, so there's no point in downloading extra codecs, unless you want to view the videos with other players of course.

Downloading codecs with that name & logo just doesn't seem right ;)

Well not everyone likes vlc so there is nothing wrong with loading the mkv codecs for windows media player and so on. Not sure what the name or logo has to do with a good codec pack but each to their own. I have only ever used that pack for mkv's and never had an issue with windows player. I prefer windows media player but when i mine bitcoin i can only use vlc for mkv's or it freezes.

I find mkvs play better using K-Lite mega codec pack and media player classic.
