Have beem looking for a while at a new TV for the room. Have looked at these
>>Samsung and >> panasonic at makro. Nor looking to spend more than about R2800 though.
Anyone else know of a better buy?

buy a hdtv you can get 1 for around that price i think , because thats whats going to be around soon , dstv also launched the new hd pvr so that means they going to broadcast in full hd over next few years add some hd channels etc
 
That would be ideal but i don't think you will get a HD TV in that price range :)
Already have a rear projection HD ready tv that will have to do for that purpose if it really ever tickles my fancy :D
 
I would not buy a TV right now unless one is replacing a broken one. Even then I would buy the cheapest thing I can get my hands on. With the broadcaster switching to digital soon and HDTV on the horison etc etc, any buy now could turn out to be a bad buy. Just my 2c.
 
Just dont buy those cheap Logik 74tv's at Game.
Bought one for R1299 and what a terrible tv!
subtitles cut off onscreen and a humming noise that makes you want to puke!

Hehe, I was just about to suggest that he get that one cos it's nice and cheap :)

I have had the same one for more than two years now, also bought at Game and have had no issues with it...
 
From experience I can tell you the sound on the Panasonic is incredible in comparison to other brands and the picture is also top class. Dont worry about digital, you will get a decoder and you will have no worries as for HDTV unless you really want/need it and have DSTV dont worry about it. It will be years before we have any other HD channels from anyone else besides multi choice
