So I have a few questions for those old skewl hardcare gamers of my generation... before all this ***** footing games we have no with tutorials and hand holding... Here is a list of games, how far did you get. I would love to know.

Ice Climber
Battle City
Joost
Twin Bee
Bolloon trouble
Battle Toads
Mappy
Elevator Action
Pac-Man

Suggestion will be added to the list but it has to have been a hardcore game with virtually no ending in sight or a struggle note worthy

;)

Kontra? I play them still on my phone. Some of them at least. 64 in 1 on google play store.

My claim to fame is by association: my younger brother is a gaming machine, and actually finished the original Battletoads. The sort-of-sequel, Battletoads / Double Dragon, was a lot easier by comparison.

Another nasty one for the list:

Jurassic Park

Ice Climber - Stage in the late 20's
Battle City - too much time spent creating levels to try the normal stages

Can't recall the others but I freaking hated Joust.

Jurassic Park +1

As for battle city... you ever get the joypad that pulled to the eagle and you would shoot it xD

Me and my brother's favourite was Battle City, I think we must have played it about 80% of the time in "co-op mode" (for the lack of a more legendary term :D )

I also spent a lot of time playing
Antarctic Adventure
Sky Destroyer
Starforce

I'll add to my list as and when I remember the rest

I cant think of one game I ever finished. "Someone" would always reset the game by "accident". Hey I also did it a few times.

Finished battle city in co-op mode. level 99 or 100. If I recall, it simply starts at level 1 design again, but with much harder enemies.

Mappy, elevator action, twin bee and ice climber were also favourites, I cannot remember finishing them, or at least whatever qualified as finished in those old games, but I do certainly remember getting very very far into them. Mappy especially. That damn trampolining mouse was awesome.
Pac man never grabbed me the same as some others.

Contra got clocked eventually too. Also multiplayer mode. What a fun game.

Played Elevator Action & Pac-Man endlessly in arcades & on C64 in 1980's - can't remember how far I got though :(

Anyone remember Bonanza Bro's? That was fun :)

Bleh I have so many memories of removing the cartridges and cleaning them...

Ah yes when a good blow would fix anything... Wait, it still does! :D

Spelunker? Never ever managed to finish this. Weirdly addictive though.

Another one of my favs was 'School Fight'. It had trainyard battles and even motorbike battles.

I loved Adventure Islander 3! Like an old school RPG, I collected dinosaurs like a beast! Finished it a couple of times.

Had some epic chinese games as well, couldn't for the life of me understand what it was about (something about monkey superheroes), but it was great fun!
