Hi guys, is 1x8gb RAM 3200 mhz enough? For gaming and general use.
Or is dual channel 2666 2x4gb better?

I have one 8gb stick. I had no problems with gaming thus far (The Witcher, Elite Dangerous, Ghost Recon, Ark etc). I do believe that dual channel is better but I am no expert.

2 sticks would be better. I suggest buying 1 8GB stick now, and another later. 16GB is the current sweet spot for now.

Agreed, I can't remember which game it was, but it used up to 7gb alone while I was playing.

So 16gb would be ideal.having 8gb modules means you future proof to an extent on how much ram you'll be able have.

Yip. Get 8 Gb now, later on get another rather than 2x 4Gb's

More and more games are starting to hog RAM so go the 1 x 8GB module if your board supports it

Is the duel channel thing still relevant today?...

Yes but it depends very much on the specific app/game. In some games you will see zero benefit while in others it might have a marginal or significant impact on fps.

8GB is still fine. I have 8GB RAM and have never had a memory problem, with gaming or otherwise.

i5-3570K, 8GB RAM, SSD & HD7990 with CPU and GPU liquid cooled and OC'd. Still runs everything max or close to max at 1080p.

What about future wise? Current AAA games recommend 16GB, with 8GB as a minimum.

Many games have needlessly recommended 16GB. I doubt the extra memory would help even if you were gaming at higher resolutions - video memory is more important in that respect.

Dude. Games have only recently starting to recommend 16GB.
I prefer to go with the game developer/studio on this.

In anycase, more ram is always better. It makes more sense for the OP to get a single 8GB stick now and another stick when he requires it.

Also, the RAM helps a lot on higher resolutions.

Not just recently. I'm not disagreeing that sticks smaller than 8GB should be avoided. Just saying 16GB is absolutely not required for gaming yet and the money would be better spent on other hardware.
