Does current witchcraft legislation recognize the existence of witchcraft in a legal sense?
Delivering a speech on behalf of Premier Senzo Mchunu, Dhlomo said on Sunday: “This is a despicable act of violence and hatred. It is unlikely that young people in their twenties can have so much deep-seated hatred and kill even a 1-year-old with a panga without being possessed by Satan, or under the influence of drugs.”
Dhlomo said the killers must pay the price for what they did.
“The Mncwabe family have lost their loved ones. They are now homeless after one of their rondavels was burnt.
“The killers must repent, and also tell the world who the rest of the perpetrators are, so that they too can be subjected to the full might of the law.”
The brothers said in their plea that at their brother’s funeral in May, their uncle said the grave should not be filled as there would be another death.
They understood it to mean that the family was targeted by witchcraft.
When their sister died afterwards, this belief only became stronger. The brothers believed they would be the next victims of witchcraft at the hands of “Mantinga and Sibonisile”, and decided to kill the couple.
