Great - now you've gone and opened the door for all those whiners to start screeching abuser - so before that happens all me to congratulate you on your efforts - kudos.
Everyone who manages to exceed their cap is helping to show just how unfair this current system is to the smaller isp's.

I hav a feeling that we're going to get a statement from telkom very soon saying "You see what they do? We give them freedom and they go all ape %H!&. This is why we need caps, shaping.. " etc

At the end of the day Telkom is the reason there are caps - not oober and not the minority of high end users.

80gb is excessive when we all have to share the 'supposedly' limited international bandwidth - but telkoms 3GB cap is still ridiculous. 30-50gb cap would be acceptable - and then if people want to go over that they should pay for it.

Well, I'll say good on you! Telkom keep saying that the average person uses less than 3GB. So you just pushed 26 people way past 3GB. Hopefully that will screw their averages up. In anycase, those who complain should note a few things:
1. The service hasn't deteriated because of the current abuse (he's def not the only one)
2. We've been capped at 3GB for more than 3 years now. And instead of raising the cap, or charging less, they HARD CAP us!
The actions of those raping telkom accounts now is definately NOT going to change anything in the status quo. If anything, it will allow for a few anti-competitive lawsuites being filed against Telkom.
If you were hoping things would change for the better by themselves (before said abuse), then you need to snap out of your dream world!

No1 is defending Telkom.. I guess u can look at this both ways: It shows the 3gb is nothing and we need more; and it gives telkom an example of how ppl will go ape (compared to the 3gb we're *supposed* to have)

80GB is a little on the high side, sure, but is nothing out of the ordinary by international standards, and it's always only going to be a minority of users who download a lot. Everywhere else in the world it's common for people to be able to download that much, for far far cheaper. South Africa should expect nothing less than what is available overseas and at a similar price. I cannot stand people who "aim low" and have extremely low expectations / standards for South Africa - that's the root cause of half of our problems. "Hey this is South Africa, we should settle for less", says fragtion. Wake up. Do you know why South Korea is the world leader in broadband penetration? Because of one reason: their leadership stood up and said, "let's stop playing catch up to others like the US - let's aim for nothing less than being the best in the world, and let others try to catch up to us". They made that 'mindshift'. That's why we lag and they lead, it's all in the attitude.

Unfortunately South Africa doesn't have the competetiveness in the telecomunications sector that "South Korea" may have and while Telkom is here alone they can do what they want -- just FYI it's that 'minority' of bandwidth-eaters that DO in fact spoil it for all of us, and I base that statement on factual reports made by Telkom.

So two questions for you:fragtion_ said:
(1) Why is Telkom the only ADSL provider in the whole world for whom abusers "spoil it for everyone"? Why are ADSL providers everywhere else able to provide anything from 30GB monthly limits to unlimited services for far far cheaper and on much lower margins? Do other countries not have "abusers"?
(2) If abusers are spoiling it for everyone, why isn't Telkom simply hard-capping like they force all the other ISPs to? They certainly have the infrastructure to do so already (for the ISPs), they could turn it on by just flipping a switch.
