With the 8800 340mb being ridiculously overpriced here in good old S.A. I've now set my eyes on this card. Problem is nobody knows when the hell it will be released. I've come across reports of as early as mid March to as late as spring:eek: . I hear the prices will be around R1300 in the U.S. Probably around R2400  here.

Ahhhh

Well at least R2400 is affordable..

I'm even thinking of getting one, just to have DX10 for Crysis etc..

Okay I checked a few of the articles on it.. $179 retail price.. and the 8600GT is apparently going to be $129, quite a bit cheaper, but 150Mhz lower clock speed and only 48 pipelines compared to 64. So it looks like a 8600GT for me unless the 8600Ultra is actually affordable.

Think I would also invest in the 8600Ultra.

Don't need the top-of-the-range card, but when I'm playing the odd game, want it to support DX10 at least....

im waiting for a card thats around 2k before buying

im not going to spend 4k-6k on a card because dx 10

there is nothing that uses dx 10 at the moment

8800gt FTW

Yeah, my mate just spent like 6k on the 720MB one, which I think is just plain crazy.

Looks like there is no 8600Ultra but 8600GT and GS as usual.
Both these parts will announce at Cebit the coming month :)
MSRP for 8600GT looks to be unchanged from the normal $199 and $149 for the 8600GS. 512MB and 256MB versions for GT and 256/128MB versions for GS.

bleh never mind. I just read your whole thread on systemshock... Makes me want to cry :/

Now the 8600GS will only be 128bit? I wonder if that even makes it worthwhile to upgrade, I'd probably have to go with a GT at least, but now thats $199 :(

Maye I'll look to ATI and the R600, if they bring out all of their cards at once at least..

Well if you do decide to go with ATI it'll be at least June b4 you buy anything... (could be wrong though but I have been reading that R600 has delayed yet again to Q2 and I'm thinkin' it won't be the 1st of June either)

Having said that those of you who have 20" and bigger size screens would do best to avoid the 8600 series, as good as the GPU seems to be, 128-bits just isn't enough even if they invested in a very smart 4-way crossbar. :( Considering the GTX can arguably be said to have a 12-way controller:/
