hi guys, im sort of at a crossroads here, i have to choose between a Nvidia, Intel powered system, and a ATI, AMD powered one.

For absolute mindblowing gaming. Which one would succeed?

YOU DECIDE!

TODAY!

HERE!

NOW!

HD3850 512Mb Crossfire setup will give about the same performance and cost 1/2 of the price.

dude the 2900xt is an old mini and the 8800ultra is the newest ferrari are on the market

dude if you can wait for around the middle to end of feb the 9800gtx2 is coming out and it will be around the same price as the ultra

do not buy the 2900xt, if you have to buy now buy the ultra

BUT! isnt a SLI/Crossfire setup unstable and dodgier than the devil himself?!

I have not heard any problems with CrossFire other than some games not supporting it.

8800Ultra :)
For it's current price  I'll give it a skip ;)

Perhpas as posted by "killadoob" wait for a 9 series othwerwise you stuck with a card Nvidia is no longer going to manufacture.

well the crossfire option is a good one i thought until i saw the new 8800gts 512 meg beats that the crossfire 3970 in most benchies at 1680 x 1050 or higher

Ok heres the $60k question:

8800ULTRA
6600 Quadcore
2 gig 800

VS:

Crysis, Full AA, High settings.

what would happen?

Welll, the OP wanted to know which one I'd choose between the two for a gaming system if I had to choose right now so I chose ;) I'm not going to give him different answers than the ones he wants.

You'll lag happily ever after, turn off the AA and it'll be very smooth :)

Very true :)
So for the sake of an anser I would say the 8800Ultra...
His money ;)

lol, ok the truth is, im getting around 15k in total for a pc, half today, then the other half spread around 4 months from now, i think all considered its a good thing because i wouldnt have the self controll to wait for the 9 series normally.

But they quoted me a 8800Ultra for R5k! Is this sudden drop of price a result of the upcomming 9 series? I reckon because its such a high end cards, potential buyers realise that the 9 series is around the corner thus not buying it now?

I need ur wisdom on this one guys.

dude buy all your pc stuff apart from the vga card is possible

your going to kick yourself if you buy the ultra now and in one month u see the 9800gtx2 for the same price, its going to rape the ultra

you will feel sick

there is also the 3750x2 which is coming out which will be cheaper than nvidia card and also rape the ultra although AA on this card will more than likely suck

dude wait on your vga card

also the ultra is not that much faster than the gtx

bugger the upcoming 9 series, have a look at the 3870x2 (oops number may be wrong) coming out soon.

For 5k get the ultra as i believe i said last night as well.

killadob if i get the 3870 should i opp for an AMD system? also what will that card retail for?

Killa i think he was referring to the 3870x2 and that should come out between 4k and 5k i believe.

Not going to answer any more of this guys questions after this. He keeps changing his mind and is going nowhere fast.

Final words, buy the damm intel quad system with the ultra just make sure the psu is up to the task (watch 300 more questions to follow but i am outie)

:)

lol QX im sorry about the billion questions, just new to all this and im trying to get as much info as possible, so easy to rip urself off with pc stuff when you dont know the bends!

Is a 500w power supply ok?

Depends on the PSU? Which 500w you looking at? need to look at the rails.
