Hey All :)

I bought a 7.2 mbps modem on saturday and was anxious to start it up :D

"plug and play it says" HA - HA - HA - HA

first of all the very nice lady at the shop said the system was down and that she couldn't activate it until it was up, she said she would phone me when it was, she didnt. I called saturday afternoon asking if it was up, she said it was and that she would activate it. she didnt. the next day i called again for her to activate it, FINALLY!

So i bought R150 8ta airtime for the modem and loaded it all in, bought the 2GB+1GB bundle promo.

Plug into my computer and BAM - 0 Reception - this puzzled me as she told me that i was in perfect 3G coverage where i live...

phoning 8ta back 5 times after not picking up and being disconnected twice, I finally got through. they told me to dial 081 183

I did, they gave me a bunch of directions to tweek the network and still nothing... I get no reception and hardly any internet usage...

what do i do now?? - should i take the modem back? and what about the airtime?

SO annoyed

You might have a base station like ours that has 0 signal output for days, and then bam it works fine for a month or so and bad to 0 signal! it's like load shedding or something....

Did an installation for a client this evening, but his brand-spankingly new 8ta modem reports 0% signal strength. It was working fine at my place.

What a bummer.

It is well within the coverage area according to the online map however.

I recently signed a 24month contract for the Samsung 10.1 TAB. Great device, but cr@p signal. I get 3G and H+ at work and it drops frequently.

Not impressed with their service thus far.

I dont even get reception in my phone... :erm:
If it was before, then tower is down. It means that it will be back eventually. No reason to return modem, unless you are no happy from the modem, but you haven't chance to try. :(

The guy is not right. You have been able to purchase 2+1 promo, it means your SIM is already provisioned for non-roaming.

Check your coverage map again, use this link:

I would test the sim and modem in another area where 8ta has signal, just to be sure problem does not lie there.
8ta should take responsibility if their map is wrong.

If you have zero luck, I would sell the package if it is prepaid

As an aside, the 8ta website says I have no coverage, but with my external aerial I have a 60% signal on my router with 8ta 10GB package and all works well
