8ta Huawei B683 vs regular USB speed stick

Thinking of opening up a 8ta contract and wondering which would receive better speed?
I want to connect my laptop and iphone to wireless so the B683 would be ideal.

I have the b683 modem with external aerial do not waste your time with other modems the B683 is the best my speeds are great.....
 
I agree. Subjectively, at least, I am far happier with the B683 than a USB modem for daily long term use. It does have a very good internal antenna too and always seems to be faster than my USB modems. Having ethernet ports also helps, and the wireless means you can easily share. Highly recommended.
 
Also get better long term connection connection and speeds with my B683

Connects fine via wi-fi with my iPhone and wifes BB
 
The B683 is just awesome. Good luck finding one in stock at 8ta though... terrible, absolutely terrible management there. Been on a waiting list for weeks now at 4 different 8ta shops. :confused:

I have been running tests with the B683 and it was great for the first day.
However for two days now i have download speeds of only 50-100Kbps...
Not that impressed to be honest.
Any suggestions to boost the speed?
 
Use the freedom that the USB cable connection gives you to find a optimum reception spot.

Remember, it operates via wireless technology, so depending on the current load on the tower you connect to, your speeds can vary greatly from period to period during the day. Also remember that in SA, the term, "best effort" is very dearly beloved of our Service Providers" it gives them an out so big that you can drive a bus through it sideways, and mot have any fear of bumping anthing.

They all advertise LTE, as if they can deliver it, when they still cannot deliver 1/3 of the speed of a 3G connection's thru put capability.

The fact that their towers are overloaded and congested to hell an gone does not bother them, as if we are not paying for the most expensive data in the world.

So don't have expectations of getting wonderful speeds.

are there any cheap antennas to boost signal on the B683?

I don't really want to spend R1300 (poyntings) on a hectic omnidirectional antenna?

Is there some cheap ones that really give you a big boost?

They use LTE as a vehicle to increase pressure on ICASA for new frequency allocation. But LTE is not going to solve demand for bandwith in SA, as wireless works well only if it is supplementary to the wired installations. We have still one km to the end point problem. Besides, LTE is not bandwith efficient technology comparing to HSPA+ (at least at current stage).
 
Hello, can anyone tell me how good \ bad the wifi coverage is with this modem at home? distance wise!
 
Well my B863 is on the 4th floor of the complex, and I can pick it up at the complex'es motor gate 30 meters away.

Shows 1 bar on my Samsung Galaxy S4 - is barely usable at that range ...
