Hello all,

Any help on the below would be much appreciated!

I recently purchased a new Huawei E589 in Hong Kong, and subsequently bought an 8ta 60GB + 60GB data package - should be all systems go, however, the device can't find any 8ta network and when I plug the sim in, it says "No Service"

I'm definitely in an 8ta-covered area - urban Cape Town.
The 8ta sim card is good in other phones - in fact I did a sim swap just to be sure
The E589 works perfectly with my MTN sim or my wife's Vodacom sim
The fact that is recognizes that there is a sim card in, but can't find a network, makes me think that the device isn't locked - but then what is the issue, and how to fix?

Thanks for any help!

I guess, it is stuck searching for LTE. Can you disable LTE on the configuration page? You need to lock it in 3G (WCDMA) mode.

Can you connect it directly to PC? does it install modem drivers? If yes, then you can use MDMA for selecting 3G-only, it will be remembered in device.

Hi sajunky,
Thanks for the help, but that wasn't it.
I took the device in to the Flagship 8ta store in Canal Walk this morning and with a bit of creative thinking they solved it:
8ta sim cards that work for 4G or LTE devices are only the new micro-sim cards, not the standard sim cards. So we did a(nother) sim swop, fitted the micro sim into a holder so that it fits like a standard sim, and hey presto - service received.
FYI for anyone else out there!
