In our business we have guys and girls running about with laptops and 3G modems. The Vodacom contract is about to expire and the 8ta offer sounds like a good one.

However, the Telkom Direct store say:

"Unless you can supply an address which we can verify signal coverage, we cannot do the contract"
"8ta does not do corporate contracts, only private ones"

Hey there, I have always known that sometimes we might be in an area where the coverage is dodgy, but to be so dogmatic about the RULES seems to be taking it a bit far. You create and market a mobile device like a 3G modem which is surely a portable device, then specify that it can only be used in one place. 95% of our work is in a school that is well within the coverage area.

I also want to try it for a few days and see how we get on. No. Impossible, they say. Buy it or walk out the store. So that is what I did.

Called CellC. Not my first choice, but they are definitely business-like. Provided a 10Gb SIM to try out free for a few weeks and leave it to me to test.

Don't you worry, I was on the phone with 8ta for over 2 hours. First 081125, then 081183, got transferred from department to department. No-one could answer it and said it was best to visit a store...

Have tried the "[email protected]" but no reply.

Seeing they are so negative and unhelpful, I would prefer to go with CellC. I get really p'd off when people tell me what they cannot do instead what they can do. After 10 or 12 negatives you want to slam down the phone. No incentive to make a better suggestion or be helpful.

You bend over backwards to give them a chance to sell you the product which makes them money, but the people they employ to do the sales are operating within a tight strait-jacket and have no recourse to use their imagination or brains (even if they are so inclined) so you get the standard, "I don't deal with that" approach. I can tell you many stories, first-hand experience with Telkom wiring jocks getting it so badly wrong that they had to send out a whole fresh team to unstuff-up the wiring. Many of Telkom's employees are decent, dedicated fellows but the 8ta sales team - my business would have expired on day 3 if I relied on them. If the 8ta rep reads this, tell me what I can try next. I don't specially want to go to the Canal Walk store on account of it is 50 mins drive away, but if I am assured that I will meet someone who knows his product, then I will go there.

Phoned 8TA last week 081183 and asked what paper work I need to get the Internet 5 Promo for my company, they tell me my ID, 3 months bank statement and the company CK number. Yesterday I went to the 8TA shop in Fourways with all the paperwork and then they tell me no they don't service companies and I will have to wait for the launch :wtf:

I have stopped waiting for an 8ta person who can assist and have bought the 10Gb CellC offer. Only R 33 a month more, and it works very well. Dillinger's comment is typical of 8ta's staff, they are simply not interested in what they are doing. Btw: Bought 11 CellC 10gb SIM bundles and all delivered by their rep within 24 hours. No BS, no ponderous forms with amazing questions (how long have you lived in your house - only 22 years, what was the previous address!!), just a 2 minute sign up when she delivered them. That is what private enterprisesshould be.
