Hi. Please can someone at tech support open up port 81. I am trying to access my firewall box remotely and it seems access is getting blocked at ISP level.

Thanks

Hi getafix33!

Our APN is currently set at unrestricted and there are currently no policies in place to block any ports.
Please do a traceroute and provide us with the results? Try to disable the firewalls on the machine you want to access your firewall box from and check if that helps?

Big time. I use it a lot :D

What environment do you use it. I use it at home as a firewall and caching server. I have a tenant which I keep an eye on. Two small kids also need protection from those "nasties"

My domain name is hosted by Afrihost, but ISP is 8ta. COuld the port blocking issue be on Afrihost side??

Is it "safe" for me to give you my firewall domain address for you to test, ping, traceroute etc??

I used clearos for a bit but then found it to be a bit basic so I built a custom ubuntu server. How are you passing the connection to the clearos box? is it a 3G router you are using?

Can you ping the poweredbyclear.com dynamic dns name? Does it resolve the right IP?
Have you opened up port 81 on ClearOS firewall (this was more a 5.2 issue, I think its open by default now in 6.3)?

How is your internet route handled? Does the server make a PPP connection? If it does not and the router makes the PPP session.... are you sure that you have correctly port forwarded the appropriate ports or set the server as the DMZ?

I have about 50 ClearOS boxes out at clients. I use them everywhere. Though none on 8ta. The setup I prefer is to make the server dial out and create the PPP session (you need to set your router in bridge mode for this - if it has it). If for some reason I can not setup the router in bridge mode I set the server as the DMZ. Port forwarding can become a real hassle especially when you are using the VPN functionality. I have it connected to my own personal hostname but I just cheat there. I create a CNAME DNS record pointing to the poweredbyclear.com dyndns hostname. Then I give that CNAME record a very low TTL like 60.

My setup is as follows:

8ta 3G connection.
Dovado 3G router. Not able to run in bridge mode. IP 192.168.0.1
Clearos wan IP 192.168.0.1
Clearos LAN IP 192.168.1.1
Internet host name is clearos.oohlaladecor.co.za
Oohlaladecor is hosted at afrihost.

Any pointers??

Hi getafix33!

Does your USB modem and router combination work in bridge mode? Check out your router's website to check if it is compatible or if there is a firmware update to make your dongle compatible with your router. We have done the tracert as you have tested to the above and there are no issues.
