Hello 8ta,
Could you expand on that explanation you gave to InSanity (above) a bit please? (sorry Bud, 60yr old slightly tech-challenged ;-) I'd appreciate it if you would walk me through it in more detail, there are a bunch of people in this farming area who would sign on if the test results were positive
I'm near Pietermaritzburg, currently using Telkom Vsat to connect. They just installed a Huawei phone here (due to cable theft) and the 3g on that connects fine to the net. (If I get 3g signal on the Huawei, does that mean I can get your 8ta signal or is the Huawei working off a different mast?).
Now I want to power up a second PC with your 10gig package but don't yet have any kind of usb flashstick modem. Where do I get the 8ta sim? The Telkom shop at Midlands Mall? Once I get the sim, can I put it in a cellphone to test the coverage? How about if I use my son's vodacom usb flashstick modems, will the 8ta sim work in that for a test? Must I first buy an 8ta usb modem?
The youngster at Telkom/Midlands Mall didn't know what to suggest for testing ..... BTW Voda/Mweb and CellC all offer test sticks ;-)
I look forward to more info and thank you for posting here, there are a few of us who look forward to your answer and a possible solution.
Jim
Hi Jim, sure we can.
Currently all 8ta prepaid SIMs (on default) does not connect to the 8ta network as they roam 100% on MTN.
After we launched Internet 5 Promo (that only works on the 8ta network), we had plenty of queries on coverage and speed.
So we decided to give the user the option to test the network them self, before signing the 24 month contract.
The first thing you need to do is to confirm if you have coverage here
http://www.8ta.com/coverage/8tanetwork/
If you do not have any pink close by, then the service will not work.
If you have pink or you still feel you want to test the 8ta network, then purchase a prepaid 8ta SIM from any of the channels or outlets.
(To view the list, please click on this link
http://www.8ta.com/stores/)
Then email the 8ta number and the request to open the SIM to the 8ta network to
[email protected]
(Please give three working days)
After we opened it, you have the option to connect to the 8ta or MTN network.
Load airtime and convert it to data.
Manually connect to the 8ta network (very important to do this)
Test the 8ta network at your home at your own time and leisure.
After you are happy with the speed and connection, you can either sign up for the Internet 5 Promo or go for the prepaid alternative 2GIG + 1GIG Promo.
