Will I loose airtime/data if i do a sim swap to a new Telkom Mobile micro sim from my old 8ta sim?
Do I need to go into store to do it or can it be done on fone thru ussd menu?
Anyone...?

No, because the airtime is loaded onto your phone number, not the physical sim.

But for peace of mind, let the Telkom Mobile social media team confirm for you. ;)

1) I did a sim swap 2 weeks ago and didn't lose my airtime/data.
2) You can't do a sim swap through ussd. Perhaps you mean you want to change your tariff plans?
 
Nope, have the old 8ta sim.
Want to get new micro sim, so I need to go into a store to do it.
Will have to wait till next week then.

Seriously, they can just migrate/or carry over as they have details already.
Ah well... Maybe i'll just go buy one of those pre-Rica'd sims on the streets then.

I actually appreciate it that there is still a safeguard built into the system.

That is the only thing that is stopping a criminal from impersonating you and clone your phone number onto a new sim.
 
Well pre-rica'd sims available most everywhere these days. Don't see them stopping anyone.
Have you noticed how many spam sms's you get on your newly rica'd sims?

I have a contract sim and can honestly say I have not received one spam sms on it. :love:

Although I received a ton on my Vodacom contract sim. One of the reasons I left them for TM.
 
I did a sim swop to a micro sim when I got a new phone. It's just the sim card that changes, it's blue now kept my airtime and bundles.

Also no spam messages TM.
 
Hi IceQB;

Kingrob is right, you will not loose the airtime or data bundles when you do a SIM swop. You need to visit the nearest Telkom Store with your ID and proof of residence so that they can process a SM swop for you. Please note that it will cost you R35.00 for a SIM swop to be done.

No fear, even a replacement sim card will contain all the balances from your old sim. Same applies to a normal sim swop since the sim is just a key to your account and eats off whatever balances are on there
 
Well, will have to wait till Monday.
I did one for the wife on CellC last week - cost me R1.

A Vodacom prepaid sim swop is 99c, the price of a prepaid sim/starter pack and you can do the sim swop at home, just phone customer care and start the process.

Telkom Mobile charging R35 for a sim swop is kinda taking the p1ss but what can you do.

Mm, it looks as if one needs to shop around.

I'm using the 60Gb+60Gb 12 month Data SIM and about a month ago the network started dropping the connection when I tried to upload attachments on emails or when I turned on the camera in Skype.

The Telkom shop in the Cresta shopping center in Johannesburg replaced the SIM card free. All they needed was the phone number as well as my ID to make sure I wasn't trying to get a SIM belonging to someone else. Nothing to sign, nothing to pay and no need to explain why I needed a new SIM. I was out of the shop in under 15 minutes. It took that long because there was someone ahead of me being served when I walked in. :-) The new SIM was already activated by the time I got home.
