I don't understand all these people who complain on this forum about 8ta's speeds. Yes if you are getting below 1mbps download and 0.5ish upload and a local ping greater than 150ms, there is a reason to complain. If you are getting 1-4mbps download, why are you complaining. 3g is a technology with high contention ratios (more than adsl). You can't expect it to be as steady as adsl. Furthermore 8ta for the most part is cheap for 3g compared to the other networks. 1-4mbps is perfectly adequate for 95% of the population. If you are in the 5% who demands more, then pay more. Don't expect to pay R200 a month to get performance standards one would get on adsl for R500 a month +.

Yes some people get 8mbps on 8ta which is lucky for them. And this makes people jealous, including me  but i get 1-4mbps usually and I am happy with that for R200 a month. Although obviously I would love 8mbps :D

I think 8ta's business model is really great (for the moment). They have products that gives a lot of people decent speeds and caps at a reasonable price.

Don't expect a Ferrari if you're paying for a Toyota... :D

I get 700-900ms ping on 8ta to uk servers, with mtn/vodacom i get 220-280, reason enough?

It's fine thanks anyway, bought the 2gb plus 1gb a while ago to test it(data is finished now) although the download speeds were good, for some strange reason I got high latency...If only MTN had a rep here like this:erm:

i for one don't mind getting 7mbps when its raining (most people wont bother using the net and hog tower over here) , my dongle is hitting almost max speed then !

*wikkels, it would mean a lot of noise on your 3g and signal. you could have tried getting a usb extension and some prestic for better latency....

i moved my 3g dongle away from my case using some usb extension cords and stuck it with some prestic onto the wall , pointing in the general direction of the tower its using and voila, getting better service than some people paid 1000s for (arials etc lol)

Yep, I'm very pleased with my 8ta connectivity, and the 2+1GB bundle. Getting in excess of 300kbps downloads on my Guild Wars 2 updates, and no lag.

The main problem with 8ta is the sparcity of cell-towers. I live in Plumstead, the closest tower is 2.2km away and hence the signal is poor with resultant poor throughput

I get on average about 500kb/s downloads speeds on a 7.2 connection. Should I expect more than that. The best I had was 850kb/s was this was only for a few seconds.
If thats the case, I do I get faster speeds. Would love 1mb/s+ speeds.

There are ways and means to get around signal issues :)
Thanks for sharing Draconia2. Some people even use foil!

Haven't been getting over 1.2mbps :(

Hi abzo

We have requested you to report this to us on 2 other occasions and we have received no response from you as yet.
If you have a reference number, please share it with us? If not, please can you assist with providing more information via our template? Please?

Hi chrisc4290!

We have 3 more towers planned for the Plumstead area. These do take a while to implement. With one of the towers we have requested to share with another mobile operator which will not take as long as starting from scratch, but this does take a while for approvals, rental agreements and installing new equipment (could take up to 3 months).

Hi getafix33!

Please can you go to www.speedtest.net and share the results with us? 1mb/s is equivalent to a 10MB connection. A 500kb/s connection = a 5MB connection which is more than acceptable on a 3G service.

850 KB/s is roughly 7.2 Mbps, if you take network data into account(6.8 Mbps if you don't).

Yeah, getting downloads at less than a megabyte per second will be your max.
