Hi guys and gals
Looking for advice and recommendations please. My children's school are embarking on a techology to the classroom as a teaching aid program. Mimio type boards have been purchased, we are sourcing projectors and I want some help on laptops.
The machines will be used for some light content creation, office type work, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, and display purposes in the classroom.
I am thinking along these lines - Win 7 pro - 64 bit - pro so that networking type features are all present. This will be a networked environment. 64 bit so that the laptops can have more than 3 gis ram used -- not that they might need that from the word go.
Core i330M -- fast enough for the above types of tasks, and the latest type of processor, cheap enough for the school to afford. Hyper threading is there, no hardware AES, cant see that as a major issue for teachers though. No turbo, but think they can live without it.
Onboard graphics -- Intel on board should be plenty - these are not gaming machines, the latest Intel on-boards seems fine for HD viewing, and general presenting, power point.
Ram -- 2 gig should be fine? - a single chip though so that we can add another 2 in a short while.
Comment and thoughts please.
Makes/Machines -- for the money the Gigabyte I1520M seems to tick all the boxes. Even throws in Intel WIDI, could be useful in a school environment. Seems like good value for money. I have never used them, I am on a Thinkpad at the moment , lovely machine but the school cant afford them. What are the Gigabytes like -- do they last?
Ps this is a live request so if you are a dealer and have a good deal on a machine that meets those kinds of specs drop me a line. wynand @ myusernamewithoutacapital .co.za
Thanks guys and gals
