Heya.

I suppose this is going to be a stupid question...

Im currently on the Telkom Closer 4 Option.
Im thinking of taking the closer 2 with a 4 meg line as opposed to the 384k line that I have now.

Line noise is 31 DB and the Attenuation is 17Db.

is it worth it. I think ill pay like R 100 more then what I am at the moment...

Thanks :D

You mean Closer 5?

Closer 2 has no DSL line. Closer 5 has 4Mb/s DSL line and costs R222 more than Closer 4.

Do you use your phone line for anything but adsl?

Nope, I mean Closer 2.

Was gonna move to closer 5 and the chick from Telkom laughed and said that I NEVER use over 100 Mins a month. So ive been paying for 1300 FREE minutes and never use them haha.
So Telkom Closer 2 with the 4 Meg DSL line.
So.. R 162-00 For Closer 2 plus R 412-00 or whatever for the line...

Yes or no?

why dont you just go with Closer 5 which will probably work out cheaper rather than getting Closer 2 and they paying seperately for 4MB ADSL ?

Even if its the same price, you score a bunch of free minutes!!

:)

Also got a stupid question ...

I got closer plan 2 and do 1 package i want to get the 4 mb adsl line but i need to find out the costs of this per month dose any one know?

Closer plan 2 + 4mbps line
161 + 554 = R715 per month

Phone line: free
Unlimited telkom to telkom up to an hour (callmore time)
60 minutes dail-up
30 minutes local call (peak)

ADSL:
4mbps line
30gigs local
4.5gigs International (its a 3 gig normally) but telkom currently giving 4.5gigs meaning 1gig > 1.5gigs

What are your line stats now? If the noise margin drops much below 10dB, you will see lots of performance degradation, dropouts etc. If that's the case, you can ask Telkom to drop your downstream speed to 3072 or 2048, which will improve the noise margin.
I run 2048 on a nominal 4Mbit line on old overhead copper, several km from the exchange. 4096 just didn't work reliably, but 2048 is peachy.

Line Attuantion or what ever is 16.
SNR is 19. When I was on a 384k line it was 31 i think.

Almost looks i get throttled on the Speedtest.net site as it will not go above 512...
Local I can DL at around 380Kb/Sec

Oh well.
