Hi Guys

I was never good at this stuff, but every now and then I have to make a few calculations. What I am trying to establish is a percentage involving two values... One is 323 and the other is 31... In percentage terms, what is 31 out of 323? I hope I am making sense.

Please let me know how you calculated it because right now I am tempted to take 323 and divide it by 31 and whatever figure comes out is the percentage, in this case it is 10.4%. I have to make quite a lot of these calculations so I want to have correct figures.

Regards

Z

31/323*100 = 9.6% (with rounding)

Or rather, portion divided by whole, multiplied by 100 to give you the percentage.

A good tip is to approximate first.

30 is 1/10th of 300 or 10%

Always small by big

Yeah..no. Safer to rather remeber to divide by what you know is the total.

Or, change the numbers to something easy like 8 and 10 and do whatever you need to do to get to 80% (ie. 0.8) and then redo it with the right numbers.

Yes this is a good way to test your answer if you aren't sure what to do.
