Hi,

Does anybody here have an A+ certification? What is an average pay per hour for someone with an A+? I am getting mine soon and am just interested in what is a good rate?

Thanks,
Ted

Yeah, I'd hate to burst your bubble, but A+ is not worth that much. Get a N+ certification, then at least your qualified as a network techie.

sorry dude :(

Okay good, I thought so, I am 16, which I reckon is quite good for getting an A+, I have always intended to do N+ as well anyway. Is the MCSE worth doing? I have heard that it is a waste. What else is good to do?

Thanks

Sorry to burst your bubble again but most guys did their A+ at 15, 16, nothing special.

I say do your CCNA and cisco certs ;)

Jeez then, St Stithians is waaaay behind then, because I have had highest mark in my grade for the last 3 years in IT and only now do they feel like bothering to ask me to do the A+. What tools

IT in practice and IT in theory are 2 totally different things. No use having all those papers if you got no practical experience.

It kinda depends what you want to go into. Is hardware your thing? Do you want to become a techie? Do you want to program?

PS. If you wanting to get work as a student, then I'd look into some freelance web design / programming. As you can do that in your spare time and the pay is pretty good.

I am being taught java, and have never got less than 98% for a test. I have a fair amount of experience, I have fixed countless friends computers and am relied on as the person to call. I have been on computers since the tender age of about 5.
But still, I am not sure how much everybody else has been doing / where I am on the scale

yeah, you need to know which way you're going before deciding on courses to take. MCSE is good if you go into hardware, useless if you go into programming. But at 16 that's a bit difficult.

I'm 28 and I'm not sure what I want do do :D

I have A+, N+ MCSE (okay, only half) and CCNE, and I'm doing construction project management!

cisco is always a good one though. plenty of money there. Or in SAP.

Yea SAP wins hands down anyday if you can afford it. Don't know how pleased your parents will be with forking out R30k+ for a test or two

Keep up the programming, potential employers like seeing a potential employee with programming knowledge. Moving into a corporate environment with servers and the likes is alot different to fixing a friends computer, you are young, dont start counting your chickens mate. ;) As mentioned earlier, go the N+ route rather, A+ means very little these days. Some institutes offer both the courses in a bundle at a good price so in that case do both.

Very well said, I opted for the biting my lip route ;)

I also thought that i could move into a server environment with my excellent PC skills, boy was i surprised. I have subsequently learnt a stack while being in the server environment. Always good to get hands on.
