Found the following article on a new site:

Croat scientist warns ice age could start in five years - 10. 02. 10

A leading scientist has revealed that Europe could be just five years away from the start of a new Ice Age.

While climate change campaigners say global warming is the planet's biggest danger, renowned physicist Vladimir Paar says most of central Europe will soon be covered in ice.

The freeze will be so complete that people will be able to walk from England to Ireland or across the North Sea from Scotland to northern Europe.

Professor Paar, from Croatia's Zagreb University, has spent decades analysing previous ice ages in Europe and what caused them. ..........................

So being bored did a little more digging along the same theme, and found some interesting bits and bobs of information, so thought i would share some and maybe get some thought back on the possibilities of truth within this idea.

Going back to 2002 i found a rather good article detailing concerns oceanographers are having about the Gulf Stream -

The Next Ice Age
Worried about global warming? Talk to a few scientists at Woods Hole. Oceanographers there are seeing big trouble with the Gulf Stream, which warms both North America and Europe

From 2004 comes the following articles WRT the Gulf Stream

Britain faces big chill as ocean current slows -
CLIMATE change researchers have detected the first signs of a slowdown in the Gulf Stream — the mighty ocean current that keeps Britain and Europe from freezing.

They have found that one of the “engines” driving the Gulf Stream — the sinking of supercooled water in the Greenland Sea — has weakened to less than a quarter of its former strength.

The weakening, apparently caused by global warming, could herald big changes in the current over the next few years or decades. Paradoxically, it could lead to Britain and northwestern and Europe undergoing a sharp drop in temperatures.

Apparently the bad weather spell that is gripping most of europe and the US, is being caused by high pressure cell sitting over Greenland, diverting the cold air down over the Us and Europe.
Apparently this is a cyclic event that occurs every few years, however what i cant seem to find are any studies WRT the combined effects of the slowing North Atlantic current, added fresh water from the Actic and the anticyclone of High Pressure over Greenland.
The High pressure seems to be quite explainable of the phenomena, however how long do these patterns actually last ?
October 2009 saw the coldest ever across the US, over 4500 new snowfall, low temp, and lowest max temp records set in one week.

And yet it wasnt just a cross Atantic phenomena, it hit most of the Northern Hemisphere

Arctic air and record snow falls gripped the northern hemisphere yesterday, inflicting hardship and havoc from China, across Russia to Western Europe and over the US plains.

There were few precedents for the global sweep of extreme cold and ice that killed dozens in India, paralysed life in Beijing and threatened the Florida orange crop. Chicagoans sheltered from a potentially killer freeze, Paris endured sunny Siberian cold, Italy dug itself out of snowdrifts and Poland counted at least 13 deaths in record low temperatures of about minus 25C (-13F).

The heaviest snow yesterday hit northeastern Asia, which is suffering its worst winter weather for 60 years. More than 25 centimetres (10in) of snow covered Seoul, the South Korean capital — the heaviest fall since records began in 1937.

When one views all these bits of information over the timespan of the years, individually they seem quite plausible and self explanatory, but when one starts to put it all together, and look at the bigger picture, one wonders if the possibility of this happening in the near future, is not at all possible.

Thoughts, ideas, theories ?

and with the northern hemisphere being top heavy the earth flips its poles and north is south and south is north.

Where's the "top" that is heavy? The current convention having Europe at the "top" is just that - a convention. I have a corrected map in my office showing Europe, Asia and USA at the "bottom".

it's not my fault you hung it upside down.
