A Discussion With Iburst Management re P2P

MPAA = Motion picture association of america

Peer-to-peer went to toe-to-toe with the entertainment industry as the file-sharing battle played out in front of the issue's most important audience, the United States Supreme Court.

The last i checked this was South Africa.

Any other questions?

The "other" countries are not stopping P2P but torrent sites may be asked for users IP addresses (by court order) should the COPYRIGHT HOLDERS (by the way retard, it only becomes PIRACY if you break a copyright existing in your country) want to press charges. this is the court case you are talking about, and lets see how far that goes in Constitutional Court, my bet is on NOWHERE.

so whats your point?

The only country I know where these International Laws of Copyright do not apply is Sweden.

Thats not even the point but again you are wrong!

I am not going to try explain it to you, look it up I have better things to do with my time.

In fact I deal with Copyrights in my profession, and I dont support piracy , but you cannot deny a service because people might do something. That is unconstitutional, thats the point here. Until it becomes illegal world wide to use P2P i want mine as I pay for it!

HTTP can also be used for warez and kiddy porn and other vile things so why dont they stop that for us too?!?!?!

Waiting for a classic response!

And the while they are at it , make DVD-R / RW illegal, because you can pirate things with that too, also make DVD Recorders illegal as well, ,scanners as well..............

Because from day one iBurst said that their package would be optimised for HTTP, FTP, VPN and streaming.

Now like kids people are having tanturms about iBurst shaping p2p traffic.

Like kids people are having tantrums about the 3Gb cap.

It's almost as if people FAILED to realise what it is they were buying.

Now if you are asking a company for unshaped stuff with poor arguments it aint going to work.

I dont care what people download and as far as I am concerned the commercial world can suck my left nut. I owe the commercial world nothing and I know I downlaod alot of stuff without paying also using various methods and p2p.

I guess I am just trying to say if you want these things you should utilise some tact and strategy and not whine.

yeah its not your constitutional right to download off p2p at 1mbit, i dont know where you got that crap from, the service you paid for the 3gb package was ALWAYS shaping p2p to a degree, now theyve been leniant and i found myself getting 90+ KB on torrents last night, but you need to realise that if at anytime they want to shape it to 0KB for anyreason (they wont but if they did)they are well within thier rights since thats actually the package you paid for.

Also wushutiger, claiming you work in copyright or with copyright every day does nothing to help your argument, since if you read Somethign Awfuls article "How to Win Any Fight On The Internet" ( http://www.somethingawful.com/articles.php?a=2715 ) the second point states the following:

Somethign Awful Dot Com said:
2) CLAIM YOU WORK IN WHATEVER FIELD YOU'RE ARGUING ABOUT. If you find yourself discussing anime, say you're an animator who works for some Japanese company that manufactures games about nipples. If somebody begins complaining about web design, tell them you're a professional web designer who has completed projects for large conglomerates such as Coca Cola and Macromedia and the moon. If you're arguing about World War II and the political ramifications of Asia's isolation sentiment, declare you're the President of Asia. There is no subject that you, the professional, does not know about thanks to your extensive work in the field of, well, whatever you're arguing. It doesn't matter if all your firsthand knowledge of the subject derives from half an episode of "Pokemon" you overheard while cleaning your cat's litter, the magic of the Internet allows you to have gained real-life experience of any given subject in any given industry at any given time!

EXAMPLE ARGUMENT:

FLAME: how dare u say that abortion should be legal! WTF is wrong with u?! abortion should be outlawed and if you kill a baby then the president should kill u for being a murderar becuz tiny babys are just like litle ppl and ur a muderer!!!

INCORRECT RESPONSE: Well I may just be a single mother, but I still think abortion is a woman's choice, not the government's.
CORRECT REPONSE: Well I may just be an aborted fetus, but I still think abortion is a woman's choice, not the government's.

Oh grow up man seriously thats weak, I actually do work with this topic!

ok well i never said you didn't, just some people out there say they do to validate thier point. Out of interest what sort of copyright work do you deal with where downloading a TV Show without the permission of the copyright holder is legal?

I never said it was legal, but in its country of origin, you must delete it within 24 hours otherwise it does become ILLEGAL, so I do comply.

Secondly I do consultation for both local authorities on piracy as well as for a few international companies, because this country is backwards when it comes to copyright which needs attention asap if they want to clean it up and not become another Russia.

Well lets put it this way, it is not a Berne Agreement / Convention country.

Just to point out, amidst all the OT stuff about 'piracy' - is that there is no evidence that any downloading of material has any impact whatsoever in the real world, on sales.
Specifically as regards the downloading of music, read through and look over the links to info and official studies proving this, at http://www.corante.com/copyfight/archives/2005/03/28/the_revenge_of_sapirwhorf.php

I'd assume the same is true of all other forms of so-called 'pirated' data.
So the real debate is actually over how much of the fictitious Corporate Multinational Propaganda campaigns have been swallowed by individuals, who have been made to believe a lie, that was created to deliberately manipulate individual consumers ethics, and socially engineer them into conformist behaviour.

OK Slimothy

Hell, why dont you download something to watch using P2P seeing as yours works , that way you will be entertained.

Why the hell should I tell you what country I download things from? What difference does it make?

well believe it or not... but if I enjoy a particular album or something I purchase it... I think it's in the best interests of WBS to 'listen' to their customers because they need to realise that most people who subscribe to broadband are going to be power users...

I just think the way customers approach WBS is important... I am not talking about a CUG or anything silly like that. Just presenting WBS with some realistic concepts.

I do agree that the internet is the internet and we are each paying for 3GB bandwidth and I think it is only fair that one uses that however one chooses to without any 'interference' from the service provider because that's the nature of the animal.

However we should also realise that from the beggining WBS has let us ALL know the protocols that were going to be made a higher priority which is
why I think to complain now is not going to get anywhere...

but by all means complain... let's face it... that is how progress is made.

it makes the difference between piracy and not piracy, I don't care what/where you download but you said that you were against piracy then you said you don't do piracy and infact work in the industry and then you said you wanted to download TV shows but if you delete them in 24 hours its not piracy, well the MPAA disagrees (and before some idiot tells me the MPAA are the Movie Picture Ascociation of America let me say that all the big TV studios are the same people that make films and represented by the MPAA and therefor the MPAA is fighting TV piracy now too). So since you say you can download a tv show but its not piracy unless you delete it in 24 hours I just want to know what country has these type of leniant (and idiotic) copyright laws, because it can't be a country that actually makes good TV shows.

Can't someone just have the balls to say "yes it's piracy".........i know it's piracy and i still download it because I CAN !

Why try and win an argument about is it or is it not piracy. We all do it/have done it to some degree so until the cops come knocking at the door (like it will ever happen) KEEP DOING IT IF U FEEL LIKE DOING IT !

End of story.

I have said that a bunch of times, I do download copyrighted material and will probably continue to do so. I find it funny when peopel get mad at iBurst for shapign p2p and then when they make thier argument they say stuff like "I need it for business"
