A Final Call For iBurst

wow, the DigiChilli stuff looks really cool. I dont see anywhere mentioned whether local only, so I assume its traffic anywhere. dont mind that they managed/shape it. just wish I could get adsl from someone else.

Telkom is NOT as bad as everyone thinks it is, it's improved quite a lot, if you go by the posts of forum users the last few months

most problems are ISP related stuff, and usually it's the users who are signing up and canceling contracts erratically (with all the cheap offers going on for ADSL lately) that cause problems

Well at this point in time, what are our options; Neotel - I dont think so! iBurst - Already got them... so its gonna have to be Telkom..

I also dreaded getting ADSL from Telkom, but it was up and running in 5 days - that was 3 years ago. Friends here in CT recently got theirs in 2 days time.

I've never had problems with Telkom, apart from waiting on line for call centre. Also, once had a line problem which was sorted out in 3-4 hours...

So, on balance, you have to decide on the lesser evil IRG.

problem is my balls pull into my body so deep when I think of using Telkom ... ever again! Have not used Them for anything in over 10yrs! And I'm proud of that!

I must say I'm also anti-Telkom.

But, so far the service we've got from telkom for our home adsl line was very good, so I can recommend them.

See with me, I had a plain normal phone line, moved, cancelled the line... They didnt cancell it, kept billing me (at the old address - so I neva got the bills), then handed it over to lawyers for non payment. Basically one step before blacklist. Luckily for me I had a Cellphone bill that proved I had called their cancellation line, and it had the time I had spent talking on the number. This was my only proof. But I got them to finally agree it was their mistake. Then with my new residence, I had a new line and phone number put in, just over a year or so, then I moved provinces. Same crap happened again. Again I had my cell phone bill to prove i had called to cancell. They didnt accept that. But I finally put all the peices together (cause I gave them my new address and started gettin someone elses bill plus I was getting my mail from my old box forwarded to my new address and still getting billed for my old number). The call centre transposed the last two digits when I did the cancellation, So they had cancelled someone elses number and not mine, updated that persons address with my new address details. Hence Telkom = 100% double FAIL for me!

I used Telkom ADSL384 for about +- 1 year before having no other choice than to start using iBurst (that lasted for +- 3 years), after moving to a new residence where ADSL was not available.
I had no technical or billing issues with Telkom before moving to iBurst.

About +-3 months ago I moved to 4MB/s Telkom ADSL.
No technical or billing issues thus far either.
Their service levels have improved in my opinion.

I do have general gripes with Telkom re. them running a monopoly, ADSL line rental prices (LLU needs to happen), as well as them forcing you to take a voice line subscription.
However those are general issues that I think are shared by most ADSL users in South Africa.

What is important for me is pricing, speed, latency, quality of service, billing accuracy and general value for money.
I at least also have a choice of ISP's.

Ok Jannie, I have been with iBurst for at least 3 years now, I have 2 five gig accounts which is roughly R1200 per month. I can now get two ADSL accounts and one DigiChilli uncapped account for less (on the 256 option). But its uncapped... What carrots do you have to dangle before me to entice me to stay with iBurst? Something has got to give - and shortly it will no longer be my wallet!

As I said many times, we need to get some stuff in place first. That's now mostly done, so I'm putting the final touches on a few spreadsheets I've been working with. ;)

Give some users here (hint hint) uncapped and see how much we actually use, given the speed available.

We know exactly how much users use on the throttled system, so we have a very good idea how much they'll use on uncapped.

North of 200GB / month.

Question is, how much will you be willing to pay for uncapped?

jannie I would say around R700 for uncapped, 256kb/s speeds minimum, possibly 512kb/s late at night.

if you can't do that then you're screwed, as this deal now exists at another ISP.

R700

Does that R700 include the R416 DSL access fee? (And the R130 analog line rental?)

/shakes head

that's err.....that's for 4MB lines man

do1 costs R199

R500 for uncapped + R200 ADSL line = R700

Also worth mentioning here, is that Do1 includes another 1GB of Telkom's Data with 10GB Local as well

Jannie what is the fixed cost portion of a contract to iBurst? If I recall someone (was it AKC Jr?) mentioned ~R250? Does that mean there's x-subsidation of high usage customers to low usage currently?
