a friend needs help with his pc

ok, well my friend got a new pc, specs are as follow:
GPU-ATI HD 2900gt
CPU-Intel E4600
Motherboard- a Foxconn something or another
it's got a 160gig HDD
and 2gig ram


Now, to the problem. you see, his pc came with windows xp sp2 on it... but they were forced to re-format after a problem that came up(i think it was a virus) and way, my friend stupidly threw away the dam windows cd key, and this means that they could only install a pirated version of windows onto the pc (it is only sp1)

Ok, now this is where the real problems come in. At first warcraft 3 kept on crashing after they updated it (from 1.21 to 1.22)

So i look at it, and i couldn't get that working, but from some reason, Catalyst Control center isn't working at all... it just doesn't work... I installed .net framework 2.0 and everything

now when i try run the game, it comes up with a message saying that it needs DX8.1 or higher installed...

I need help here. do you think that sp2 is needed in this case?
 
If your friend is dumb enough to throw away his Windows XP Installation key, then he is dumb enough to get another virus... or screw it up in any other number of ways.

The best thing you can do to help him is give him a styf klap and take his PC away from him. Seriously... ppl like him should not own computers.
 
Did u install the DX9.0c?

Sp2 should not be the problem since warcraft came out long before sp2 came out.

Also look at getting Framework fix for ATI(not sure what the name is exactly)

Uninstall Catalyst Control center in the add or remove. keep the driver only.
If that do not work get the latest driver and install that.
 
Sounds like you just need to install the latest DirectX...
 
Try installing DX9c if that doesn't work reformat
