I get the feeling that HBO is not throwing as much money at this as what they threw at "Rome" or "Spartacus" and are relying more on the elements of good acting, character and storytelling rather than opulent sets and special effects. It works better for me this way although I wish we could have both. But they are doing it right!

The budget is actually about the same as Rome, and more than Spartacus. $50 - $60 million for the season averages out to $5 - $6 million per episode. Remember the cast is large, and guys like Sean Bean don't come cheap :)

what a brilliant show, i rate it up there with Deadwood, first season of prison break and early dexter.
Cant wait for season 2
 
Don't like reading... But I'll probably pick up the books soon!
Last books I read was LOTR when I was 13...!

Very very epic... Watched the whole first season this weekend and I can't wait for season 2, possibly the best series of all time.

Ya dude i was the same, but i got the book and started reading and its epic, i would HIGHLY recomend it. whats cool is you have visual aid after watching the show and you can relate to all the characters and scenary
 
I watched it this weekend past, 10 episodes devoured in one day, was exhausted afterwards but damn was it worth it, the last scene was like I want more now.

Yip me too, watched the whole 1st season in one weekend. Can't wait for season 2 to start.
 
I just finished the last book. Fortunately my kindle is buggered and I have a few days before the amazon replacement comes through. Serious withdrawal symptoms. I am unable to start any new book now because this series is just too epic and it's likely the next book will only be here in 3-5 years.

Those who don't read the books have a hell of a shock in season 2 of the tv series. At that point of the book I seriously considered stopping reading the entire thing:)
