"A Game of Thrones" discussion thread

I just hope it wont loose its appeal by then, people will move on and the franchise might not be that strong then anymore.
Or people will get so hyped up for the final chapter that it cant live up to the hyped expectations.

I think they should have released it this year and be done with it or at least after the final chapter have spin offs.

You know nothing about waiting.

Curb Your Enthusiasm's 9th season just aired recently and season 8 was in 2010. Then there's Hellsing Ultimate that took 6 years to do 10 episodes.

"one or two new books" :crylaugh:

Such a disappointment as it feels like they rushing the series to a conclusion.

Much better than dragging it out. Don`t worry, there will be spin-offs.

First Game Of Thrones Spinoff Ordered To Pilot By HBO, And It Already Sounds Amazing

HBO has had a good thing going for the better part of a decade with Game of Thrones, but Game of Thrones is slated to come to an end after the upcoming eighth season. The good news for fans is that the stories of Westeros won't come to an end after the Season 8 finale, and not just because George R.R. Martin will surely some day finally publish the next book in the saga. No, HBO has had a number of spinoffs in development to keep the stories of the Seven Kingdoms going beyond the end of Thrones, and the first pilot was officially ordered by the premium cable network. The first pilot will be a prequel, and it already sounds amazing. Here's what we know.

While the spinoff prequel does not officially have a name just yet, some details about what the show will chronicle if ordered to series have been released. The show will be set thousands of years before the action of Game of Thrones picked up, according to EW, and follow the world as it transitions from "the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour." The terrible secrets that have only been rumored and hinted at in Game of Thrones will be expanded upon, but perhaps not as Game of Thrones fans will expect. The true origin of the White Walkers, the "mysteries of the East," and the Starks of ages past will be covered. Basically, the show sounds like it would fill in a lot of blanks that may be left over from the end of Game of Thrones.

'Game of Thrones' Has Finished Filming Forever

It's the end! Game of Thrones has finished filming and it looks like goodbyes are to be had all around!

From Emilia Clarke to Nathalie Emmanuel to Sophie Turner to- most recently- Maisie Williams, goodbyes were posted on all different social media pages, and now, according to reports, it looks like things are finally finished as of July 6.

Though there was still movement recorded this week at the last active Game of Thrones set in Belfast, according to sources for Watchers on the Wall, filming has wrapped up in its entirety for the show. A couple of the last cast members to remain on set for filming after the wrap party last weekend had included Kit Harington (Jon Snow) and, as of yesterday, Maisie Williams (Arya Stark).

So they finished filming, but we still have to wait A YEAR for it to air?! No fair...

The true origin of the White Walkers, the "mysteries of the East," and the Starks of ages past will be covered. B

I'm more interested in this. Would've liked a Valyria series but the whole cast would've been platinum blondes.

The Game of Thrones Prequel: Everything We Know So Far

Once Game of Thrones takes its final bow next year, there will be more to come from the world of Westeros. That's because HBO is working on a prequel series based on George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire book series.

Deadline reports the prequel will likely start production next year, but they still have to find a director and a cast. Initially, HBO commissioned five different ideas for a Game of Thrones prequel or spin-off, but it looks like there will just be one, for now.

Here's what we know about the Game of Thrones prequel so far.

A pilot for the prequel is in the works.
HBO has ordered a pilot for a GoT prequel that takes places thousands of years before the Song of Ice and Fire storyline, CNN reports. The plot will “chronicle the world's descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.” The project will be from screenwriter and producer Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class, Kingsman) and George R. R. Martin himself.

The network promises that this is a new part of the GoT universe we’re not yet familiar with: “From the horrifying secrets of Westeros' history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend... it's not the story we think we know.” There is no release date or timeline set for the project yet.

When Goldman was asked if the show would combine her sense of humor with her love of gory horror, she told Digital Spy in August 2017, "I don't know if I'm allowed to say, but I would say yeah! Those are things I love, and things I like to do. It would be remiss of me not to put them in. So yeah.”

Naomi Watts will star.
The King Kong and The Ring actress was the first cast member announced for the sequel series. Exact details about her character are unknown, she'll portray a "a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret," according to Variety.
