Hi,
I'm looking to get some new stainless steel pots/pans. Needs to be s/s ... washing aluminium pots is a pain ever since I got the dishwasher.
My budget is around R1,500
I got some Aloe products for a long time and they are good quality but they cost around R400ea so I can only get a few pieces for my budget.
I'm hoping I can get 3 sizes of casseroles , 2 sizes of saucepans and maybe some other bits for good measure, but the extras are not important if the main items are good value. And if it's really good value for money, I'll be willing to stretch the budget a bit.

...so, have you guys come across anything like this, or do you own a set that you got good value for money from and is within this budget?

We have a R1500 pot set that we bought at Game, 4 years later they are still in good working order. We only replaced a lid, where the handle broke, you can buy those separately.

In terms of pans, rather don't buy a set, but get a large and small pan, non-stick. We bought a Brabantia at Boardmans recently, its better than the Green Pan we had.

I'll go check them out ... Is this the Tissoli brand?

I know I said i wanted a budget set, but anyone own stuff from Tevo?... This thing looks amazing on the video, and it's the ply/clad type which is meant to be premium if America's Test Kitchen is to be believed...

Not practical for me, though ... Can't be spending R1,300 on 3 casseroles!

On topic, have some older Indian ladies here at work. They seem to all recommend AMC pots? WTF is this and are they any good?.

Agreed with MAC... get a few good items. I have a cast iron casserole and an Aloe pan which will last forever.

Then a few light stainless pots and two non-stick woks.
Aluminium woks could actually go for decades if you stick to wooden utensils.

I dunno if I'll find much use for a wok. I always stir fry in my Aloe frying pan. Then again, I only got my gas stove a few months ago... maybe the wok is a better match for a gas stove?

AMC last forever ...not sure what the warantee is like but IIRC they normally fix and stuff for free
AMC is pricey though
AMC is stupidly expensive. A decent size AMC casserole is like R2500 ... no exaggeration.
My mother has a huge AMC stock pot she got from my grandmother and that thing is probably R5k if one had to buy it new today... R5k for that one pot!

Indian ladies who can't cook to save their lives swear by AMC pots.

The aunties who can cook will cook you a meal fit for a king in an aluminium pot that's decades old.

Bought an 18 piece stainless steel set from Game for R800 earlier the week I was impressed given the cheap price.

The Tissoli pots is not bad.

Got a set as a gift almost 10 years ago, I still sometimes use the smaller pots, when I'm too lazy to use the large Bastille pots

AMC if you've got the budget.

Legend pots are okay at the low end of the price scale.

Lodge cast iron is reasonably cheap and ****ing awesome. I use my cast iron pans much more than my stainless steel pots.

Get your bitch-ass a 6L electric pressure cooker.

**** that conventional cheffy-cooking, time-wasting means of preparing supper that you anyway want done before you even started.
