They say no good deed goes unpunished. That was almost the case for a group of Carte Blanche viewers who had rolled up their sleeves to help disabled children at the state-run Ikwezi Lokusa Special School in the Eastern Cape. In September this year, our investigation exposed gross negligence and human rights violations at the boarding school, with vulnerable children left to fend for themselves. It was a story that moved many of our viewers into action, arranging trucks full of donations for the children. But when it was time to deliver, the volunteers were locked out of the school while the provincial Department of Education did nothing to intervene. But we could not let these children - who have been through so much - be deprived yet again.

To go on stage as a political party and celebrate the world cup with wine and dance and speeches while saying and doing nothing about this going on under your own roof is a travesty and telling of this vile administration which claims to champion the rights of women and children. All we hear is the sound of silence.

They are quick to show up in force with blue light convoys and 1000 police officers when an alleged incident of racism takes place at a school, standing on top of SWAT vehicles in the middle of the playground with loud speakers spewing lies about championing the rights of others and equal and fair treatment. Yet a facility just down the road full of abused children, with no running water and sleeping on concrete floors doesn't so much as cause them to bat an eyelid.

Edit: If you vote for the ANC, while they do nothing about abuses like this, it makes you an accomplice and equally guilty.

The government is more interested in scoring points with Hamas and Palastine, while their own people are suffering.

The only way they will intervene in something like this, is if they can score either brownie points somewhere, or if they can make money off of it.

The root cause is the people who are tasked with (and paid most generously) the responsibility for caring for these children.
No doubt in my mind that ALL of the staff at that facility should have been criminally charged for dereliction of duty, but a fish rots from the head, so those in the department of education in the EC, as well as the most useless and unfit to serve minister.

Without addressing this, the issue will continue, not only at this facility, but all facilities countrywide.

Well put, the attitude is "cadres must eat", even if it means gross human right violations at the expense of disabled children. The ANC is pure evil.
