Im looking for a dvd recorder that will be able to record from standard rca cables to standard dvd quality. does anyone have any good advice / sugesstions?

I would also like it if someone would recommend a good DVD recorder for my needs. I don't want to record to DVDs. I just want something with a hard drive (say 80Mb) so I can record late night programmes to watch the next day. Can spend about R1000. Was thinking of LG. Should I think about what will happen when digital TV comes in and I may have to get a new TV or a decoder of some sort? Or will it make no difference to the DVD recorder?

The following looks pretty cool: Magnetox v120. The part I like is that you can use a USB hdd which means you are not limited to a certain size. Also you can then just plug the hdd out when your finished and plug in into the computer and copy the files over. I would like to hear other peoples opinions if they know anything about this device. It is slightly more than R1000 though.

I would recommend something bigger unless you want to record a couple TV ads ;)

It looks good but I think rather a lot more features than I would ever need. If it was cheaper I would be keen. LOL

Anything other than LG:mad:

any reason? one of my freinds told me he had an LG and it would "skip" on the disc while recording when it was hot and the disc would then be useless, although he said that it was a pretty old model so I was hoping that they sorted that out by now.

I've never had a problem with any LG appliances, but each to its own I guess.

As it happens, we just discovered that our Samsung DVD&VCR Combo kinda broke. We're blaming Eskom - Worked just fine last week, before we had a few of those <5min power outages. Looking at getting it repaired or just buying a new one. So for now we are also in the market for a DVD Recorder. Looking forward to any recommendations.

My LG stopped recording after a year and stopped recognising DVDs a few months later, still plays CDs though. This was a disc recorder though, no HDD

Between my businesses and personal use I have owned 5 LG dvd recorders rh1999 and rh7624 models and everyone of them had to have the loading mechanisms changed...
