Hi all
I though this would be the prefect place to ask about my little study conundrum. At the end of the month I am signing up to study further in the IT field, get certified and move forward in my career but studying further has proved to be a difficult aspect to grasp.
My plan is to become an I.T. security specialist, why do you ask? I find it extremely interesting, I have become very passionate about it, I can sit for hours going over the stuff and I feel with the way things are going I.T. Security is going to become a very important aspect in today's online world. I am already running with a project to add to our staff knowledge about I.T. security, how they can keep themselves safe as well as the company. In future I am looking in diving further into it to increase our I.T security measures further... I just love it.
I am a I.T. techy with no certifications and finally made the leap to study further however choosing the right course has been rather difficult and frustrating. I am currently looking at ItAcademy as they are decently priced and I know a few people who have gone through them so they are pretty legit.
Here is my problem:
Course bundle #1
CompTIA A+ 2015 Essentials 220-901
ComPTIA A+ 2015 Practical 220-902
CompTIA Network+ 2014 N10-006
CompTIA Server+ 2014 SKO-004
CompTIA Security+ 2013 SYO-401
CompTIA Linux+ LXO-103
CompTIA Linux+ LXO-104
My thoughts:
I though this might not be a bad idea as I don't think it would hurt to do all fundamentals first and then move further. I have only been in I.T. for 3 years and currently working as a basic I.T. Technician, I might not be clued up on a particular aspect and this will help me prepare myself for choosing a more specialised course in future. Linux would be very interesting to do a course on as I enjoy it very much and the Server+ could be helpful in case I have missed anything.
Problems I have with this course:
1) I do not want to do the A+ as I know how to build a computer, I know the different components that make up a computer. I don't want to learn about RAM, PSUs and Mother Boards all day. I just feel this would be a waste of my money.
2) The CompTIA Security+ 2013 SYO-401 is old and is expiring in October 2017 and the new SYO-501, therefore I am most likely going to have to do this one again to get the newer version.
Course bundle #2
CompTIA Security+ SY0-401
CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst: CSA+ CS0-001
CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner: CASP CAS-002
Certified Ethical Hacker: CEH v8
Certified Information Systems Auditor: CISA
This one sounds awesome as it is pretty much everything I want to get involved in however due to my experience and not being the greatest in networking I might find these courses more difficult however I do own the CompTIA Network+ 2014 N10-006 book so I though I could study that and do the test before embarking on the above.
Problems I have with this course:
Again the CompTIA Security+ SY0-401 is expiring soon and the CEH v8 (I think it is v8 just got to find out if it is the latest) is old and the international certification is damn expensive.
So do you guys have any advice for me that can help me choose the write bundle... I don't want to regret the course I take and have spent money doing it?
Thanks guys appreciate it.
