My dear Schalkie,

I know this is extremely difficult for an advocate to get his mind around unbundling, but stop thinking like a advocate for a moment and think simple. For years Telkom, Multichoice and other service providers have been adding things we dont want to things we want and then charging us for the things we dont want.

You see, its rather easy. If you go to Wimpy and you do not want bacon with your eggs, you order the eggs without bacon. Now, our friends in the consumer commission have just told you to remove the bacon and stop charging for the bacon that isn't wanted.

Its very difficult to understand, we know. Multichoice also have this nasty policy. Lets say I want Mnet. I go to multichoice and ask them to sell me mnet. Ohhh no sir. You goit to have your mnet with supersport, kyknet, etc etc etc and because of all this other stuff, your Mnet will cost you R590 per month.

All the consumer commission is asking for is that you sell me mnet, because I want mnet and not to force me to order the whole damn menu. Extremely difficult huh.

Wait for a moment and I will get my 3 year old to explain it to you. Oom, gee wat ons soek en stop om al die ander stront aan ons af te smeer. ;)

You can have Mnet on an analogue decoder for about R280 (with Kyknet and Supersport inbetween) || and digital to my knowledge.

Yup, was using Mnet as an example. Could just as well be NatGeo or whichever channel. Mnet decoders are no longer available new either. You need to locate a secondhand one and then hope multichoice will turn it on. I suspect they're analogue though.
 
My Mnet decoder broke a few years back, I found a second hand one, but it was hell getting them to transfer to my name and to send a signal. When that one broke, I just went and install a dish and got the Select 2 package. I miss the MNET stuff, but Kyknet and the other stuff makes up a little....also a R100 cheaper. Luckily I'm not big on watching TV....missing the Rugby though.

AFAIK they don't allow this for new subscribers anymore.
 
Multichoice are so useless, entertainment is repetitive and outdated and overpriced, someone get hold of an American to sell us real entertainment please? channels: ABC HD, HBO, CBS, Spike HD, Fox, NBC? uhm? Analog? no thanks I live in 2012, unfortunately in Africa where analog seems the standard.

You will NEVER get those channels here, just like the US will never show the SABC channels. Where is analogue standard?

There's one big difference, SABC is "Free-to-Air. ABC HD, HBO, CBS, Spike HD, Fox and NBC are part of various "Cable" packages in the US, and variants of those channels are offered in other countries.

But still, DSTV or TOPTV would never fork out for these channels when they can offer you the substandard
drivel they're offering you now at equally high prices.

You go to Wimpy and change a 'Standard Order' and see if the price differs. It wont! Its an international practice to sell 'Packages' If wimpy wont change the 'Package', why should DSTV?



If you dont like DSTV's business practice, no-one is forcing you to subscribe.
