A modern LAN gamer's checklist

While most gamers rock up to a LAN with their PC and the clothes on their back, some come prepared for World War 3; we’ve got a checklist for the latter

I remember going to LAN in High school and one guy brought two pick 'n pay packets. One with a motherboard, graphics card, powersupply and all that. The other with spare clothes.

Hey Jes, like the BF3 avatar. No LAN in BF3 I believe.

The introduction of online play was always gonna be a huge thing for multiplayer games, but the shear fact of LANS as being a 'social event will always have a larger impact than sitting by oneself at home and playing other people. Its human nature to seek social interaction more so in a physical contact (no not that) way.

From running large LANS I have found, its always great meeting and putting a face to a person that you may have played online for years but have never met in real life. And more often than not alot of those you have met become long time friends.

Eish many many years since i did the LAN'ing thing....

Too much effort to lug my rig around now.. plus I can't afford to have a seperate "LAN" rig either.

got to agree.

We might have to go back to LANning if some Greedy ISPs and Copyright Holders have their way! :(

Lets be honest if you still lanning you are not exactly "modern"...

True, but sometimes it's nice to play games with your friends when they are actually in the room - playing over the internet is not the same is it? Besides, who says you have to just play games at a LAN?

It can be quite a schlep. Maybe LANning might regain popularity when gaming laptops are more affordable.
