A Question about Time Travelling

How do you know you are not seeing time travellers from the future? I presume they look like us...

You dont have to travel faster than the speed of light, traveling near light speed will send you to the future relative to everyone else on earth. FTL travel is impossible as far as we understand.

Tell that to the Tachyon particle.

As I understand faster than light travel: Say you watching a TV episode, now the broadcast travels at the speed of light so if you in a craft that travels faster than that speed you will "pick up" signals that has already been broadcasted making the program you watching appear to run in reverse. Its not like you can travel faster than the speed of light and still park on the same spot, besides same spot time travel would cause a whole nightmare of its own as the earth/galaxy and universe all move so if you jump back even 10 minutes you will land in empty space.

Worm holes and dimensional travel on the other hand is another means of travel but then the question begs if you truely traveling backwards or just stepping from one moving platform onto another and not changing the one your on direction.

The tachyon particle is a completely hypothetical particle and there isn't a shred of evidence for its existence, ftl travel disobeys our laws of physics.

quantum physics disobeys the laws of physics, hence the search for a unified theory :)

FTL will be discovered in South Africa, I'm convinced. Possibly in a taxi. Nowhere else are so many laws disregarded so quickly, why should physics be any different?

I once(In my youth) had a view that it could be that UFO's and Aliens where just Humans from the future on holiday or observing their past and not Aliens from other planets.

It's relatively relative.

Time can be bent to a degree (regrading near-light speed travel and the effects of black holes) but not so far as to go back on itself.

But it's still linear in terms of cause and effect.

The idea that virtual particles violate energy conservation is a common misconception. Here is a good article on the matter http://math.ucr.edu/home/baez/physics/Quantum/virtual_particles.html .

With regards to to FTL and quantum mechanics only quantum entanglement gets into this and even that is not true FTL travel.

Anyway i think getting into a debate about quantum mechanics is silly, i can guarantee that nobody on this forum will truly know what they are talking about.
 
I'm currently working on a Infinite Improbability Drive which might have some time travelling implications ;)

What if you could only travel back in time to the invention of timetravel and not before that?
What if only a select few are allowed to travel and they aren't allowed to reveal themselves now?
What if their cognition gets screwed up when they travel back and they end up in our mental institutions?
