And I think milano had good intentions at heart when he/she/it originally posted that people should consider leaving. Crime was not the original reason I left SA (I left to go and study in Austria...yes yes, the hills really are alive) but crime is now the No. 1 reason why I am not returning. I've just become so accustomed to not being scared and worried and "aware of my surroundings" 24/7 that it would be too much effort to get back into the SA (read Jo'burg) mindset. Before leaving I never realised how much energy it takes to be constantly vigilant. I'm not trying to preach and tell y'all to leave, as I am aware that many don't want to and many can't. But I just got really sad when I read Kitten blame herself for allowing somebody to enter her car without an invitation. The levels of crime SA has is not the norm. Having to lock your car when driving around is not the norm. Blaming yourself when some shmuck tries to hijack you or steals your handbag is definitely not the norm. That's all I wanted to add. Stay safe. Not just the girls, the boys too :)

If Milano had good intentions, he would have checked his attitude before posting.

Do you seriously think the people of SA are not aware of crime and are just waiting for Superhero Milano to save them from their own ignorance? Puh-lease ....

Oh and I don't find it to be of any energy strain being aware ... I think wherever you are you should be aware ... Yes SA has bad crime, but a lot of us actually love 90% of the country and don't want to leave ... I think just being aware of my surroundings is a fair trade for living in a country with great weather, great people, my family, my animals, and plenty of potential.

Thank you for recognising where I was coming from. Clearly the lack of crime-related stress in Europe has helped you develop into a decent, level-headed non-abusive human being. Can't say the same for the rest of you stressed nutters :D

I don't carry anything on me so the only thing i could think of doing if confronted by a criminal would be to scream, kick, fight, bite. Pretty much anything to get out of the situation. The human spirit is a powerful thing in itself.

Our desire to survive is my weapon.

Milano in all fairness you have not stopped taking digs at us.

You are not a hero for leaving SA and please if you ever return be sure to check your ego at customs. You're causing my gag reflex to kick in.

I haven't even started 'taking digs' yet, that was never my aim, I currently live in SA myself. Read my first post in this thread again. It is harmless. Any therapist would agree you are clearly a very sensitive bunch :D Stress can do that ;)

No worries milano. I didn't pick up your first post as off putting or mean spirited at all. In the other posts I noticed that diplomatic phrasing of sentences is not exactly your strength Jy soek maar 'n bietjie vir k@k

Yep, but by then the lynch mob already had the noose around my neck :D

About 25 posts ago I threw in the towel and said you ladies should continue your discussion about arming yourselves, why is this still about me?

Step 1: I am not the balaclavad bad guy, focus on your enemy

:D
