A "safe" Sh1t1 Golf

Ok James May, how much faith do you have in your Panda God forbid if something had to happen?

Captain Slow FTW! I have more faith in my Panda in a shunt than a Citi. Having said that, I'd preferably rather be in a car that's safer than the Panda (which scored only 3 stars in the Euro NCAP).

I have a friend who was in a head on collision. He was driving a MK3 Golf, the other person was driving a new Megane. My friend ended up with a broken neck, the chick in the Megane walked out of the accident without a scratch.

Same accident. Different cars. One person fine, one person ****ed.

Sound like a common bull neck VS chicken neck case.:p

[-]The Nissan 1400 bakkie also concerns.[/-]

[-]Both Nissan and[/-] VW paid off their investment in the manufacturing tools for the [-]1400 bakkie and[/-] citi golf long ago - and these cars should be cheaper, not more expensive.

Methinks they've got a cash cow and is milking it for all it's worth.

Hope they'll choke and die in their high prices.

VW bought a new machine to build the Citis in 1990 or 92, they last for 10 years, the 10 years are up now and all Citis are hand built, could be a reason for the price.

Ps I read this somewhere, cant remember where or how legit it is.

No point in having an air bag if the entire passenger compartment is a mangled mess of crumpled steel.

It's like being smashed in the face with a crowbar... but they put a bit of bubble wrap on the crowbar.

Take a jam tin fold it 3 times and then you have the body of a citi golf.
The thing is horribly put together.

A lump of **** with a purple bow tied around it and a SHOX speaker, is still a lump op ****.
Dang - nothing left for me to say :(

FFS VWSA just drop this old piece of Sh1t1 already!!! In Brazil you have the Gol and in Europe the Fox/Lupo - why not bring those here?!?! Why do you keep on building crap from 35 years ago and selling it here ?! Do you think we are stupid ?

Why don't they put their balls where their marketing is and send a few over to Europe for some EuroNCAP tests - I freakin dare you VWSA !!! EuroNCAP the Xshyt and at least prove the effot was worth it.

It must be a complete letdown when arriving at the dealership to pick up your brand new citi and as you pull out of the door realise it feels like driving a second hand wheelbarrow. It gets bad when you then realise that there is no difference between your brand new car and your neighbours 25 year old one, except for a sticker (R2.00) and a dashboard made from recycled wheely bins. Then things go from bad to worse when you have an accident with a coke can or stray fast food container on the road and the whole car crumples up and sends the prehistoric engine flying through your thick skull. If you are lucky enough to survive your first day by avoiding the random road debris, that very night, some dief will nick your car and strip it down to its component parts of flint, brimstone and twine before you can say "the insurance premium is HOW MUCH??!".

I, for one, am embarrassed to share a planet with people who don't realise the ride they are being taken on by VrotWagens.

Dude ! Seriously!!! LOL !!!!
That is one of the best posts ever !

If Clarkson ever had to review the Sh1t1 I think that would be his words verbatim :p

I cannot believe they added the sound system in that way - CItis are the easiest cars in the world to break into/steal - now the thieves have another reason to do it :(

Dont be stupid!
Its in a market under R100k, its meant for people under 25 its fits their budget and is really quite a cool car to drive, i thoroughly enjoyed mine.
It has a raw feel to it that just makes it far better than any other car in its segment. I will never ever ever drive a Tata or a Cherry or an Atos, but I will drive a Citi!:)

If you embarrassed go back to the planet you came from!;)

There are loads of other cars under R100k that are way better.

As someone said yesterday, you will buy and enjoy a pile of pooh as long as it has a VW badge on it. Well, I guess that covers their entire range then :p

But seriously - the Sh1t1 is a double insult for SA.

Firstly because VWSA still makes this old piece of junk when they have access to much better cars like the Gol (Latin America) and [-]Lupo[/-] Fox (Europe). Why don't they sell them here in the sub R100k segment ?

Secondly it is an insult to SA because their are morons out their buying this piece of old crap. There are much better cars out there, just pick up your March copy of CAR magazine and you will that for the how-many-eth year in a row the Spark is the best super budget car you can get, runners up are 1 the i10 and then only the Sh1t1.

Really - there is no way that you can justify this junk as a car. Man, I even think GMSA is a bunch of farts because they still sell the Corsa B (lite) here instead of bringing the Agila in.

I beg you - before you buy a sh1t1 - visit www.volkswagen.de and check out the Fox. We could have that here, but if you buy a Sh1t1 you give VWSA the idea that somehow 35 years old junk still works with South Africans.

Like wise - before you buy a Corsa Lite - visit www.opel.de and see the Agila. We could have that - but if Lite sales are so good then they have no reason to bring in newer, fresher thinking cars.

I fully agree - and not aonly way better, try like 35 years younger.

For pete sake - this http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=160522 new Spark will fall just under R100k in two years time and I betcha VW will still try to sell the Sh1t1 then

Not really.
People buy cars for the look and then theres others who buy cars to customise. You cant drop a Spark on 17s it just doesnt go! Theres also a space issue, a Citi is small but theres enough space compared to its rivals.
Then theres the power issue, you have to admit that these little cars are quick, even a 1.4i can accelerate quite quickly.
So it has speed and looks... that what people buy cars for right?

Theres also another reason the car is doing so well. JHB Indians and coloureds liked the Citi, Durban guys liked the Tazz,:p as soon as Toyota discontinued the Tazz VW is the next best car and they capitalising on that...

So in terms of what you think is better and what others think is better is arguable, airbags and Ncap ratings are not a necessity, the way some of you go on about the safety is actually quite stupid, I wonder whats the stats on Citi owners and passed owners in the country, they all should be dead by now right??

I admit its expensive, but its still a cool car!!!

You post the same crap over and over...
It does make us look like a 3rd world country to foreigners, but some of them still love the car. A friend of a friends cousin from Orange County in the US bought a Velociti 1.6 and drives it there, you should see on FB how they love it there...
